NYEC Member Survey re: Potential 2017 Forum Topics

Emerging Topics

These emerging topics have been identified by members in recent discussions with NYEC. Please indicate your level of interest in each topic, and if you would be interested in helping lead a discussion on the topic
1. Better Advocacy for Challenging Times: learning proven techniques to improve local advocacy and enhance youth voice, and sharing what's working with your colleagues.  *This question is required.
2. Drug Use and Testing: identifying strategies for addressing marijuana use (and other substances) in an era of decriminalization, including counseling, waiting periods, working with employers, and others. *This question is required.
3. Immigration Issues: discussing the wide range of potential impacts of administrative actions on DACA youth, mixed-status families, sanctuary cities, and public safety. *This question is required.
4. Issuing Interim Credentials with Meaning: structuring programs in ways that participants can earn sub-terminal credentials or meet short-term benchmarks  that demonstrate progress towards eventual acquisition of formal certificates/credentials. *This question is required.
5. Getting Ready for Success: preparing young adults to succeed in career pathways/sector training, including  pre- and/or concurrent enrollment strategies that  provide the education and training many young adults will need to meet the requirements of formal pathways. *This question is required.
6. Connecting Workforce Agencies and Postsecondary Institutions: building greater understanding and mutuality of interest between these systems so that youth can access additional resources and supports, such as through Perkins dollars, Pell Grants, state aid, and other means.  *This question is required.
7. Using the First Job as a Building Block: developing strategies for helping young people placed in an entry-level position  to build skills and advance, in the same or other organization. *This question is required.
