Register to attend the Summer Hand Scoring Workshop: Implications for Teaching and Learning through Analyzing Student Work from the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments presented by Educational Testing Service and WestEd, in collaboration with the California Department of Education.

The intended audience for this workshop includes teachers, instructional coaches, and teachers on special assignment. However, both central and site administrators may find this training useful as well.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide educators with tools, strategies, and training in the effective use of rubrics to score: 1) constructed responses and performance tasks - for mathematics and 2) brief writes and full writes – for English language arts/literacy (ELA). To maximize the learning opportunities presented through this workshop, educators from the same schools/LEAs may find it beneficial to come as a team and divide participation between the ELA and mathematics content areas.

Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to:
  • Consider the implications for teaching and learning that can be drawn from analysis of student work;
  • Review key assessment literacy concepts;
  • Understand the value and key elements of Smarter Balanced interim assessments; and
  • Unpack interim assessment items (constructed response, performance tasks) aligned to college- and career-ready standards and use evidence-based scoring to analyze student responses.
Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. Workshops will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m.

If you require a special accommodation, please contact the California Technical Assistance Center (CalTAC) at 855-955-2954 or caltac@ets.org to request these services.

**If you are attempting to register for a workshop that is currently full, you may either select a different content area (ELA or Mathematics) or check back at a later time for openings in your preferred content area.
