"Opening Doors to Fair Housing”

Do you assist people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness to secure safe and accessible rental housing?

Are doors slammed in your faces because of the family's race, ethnicity, gender status, disability, presence of children, or housing choice voucher status?

This 2-hour will provide important information on their housing rights and what landlords or real estate professionals can and cannot do. The session will include case examples.

Learn from our local experts:

Abdi Maya is the Community Relations Officer for the Fair Housing Division of the Illinois Department of Human Rights

Betsy Shuman-Moore is Director of the Fair Housing and Hate Crimes Projects with the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law

April is National Fair Housing Month. The nation recognizes the importance of equal housing opportunities for everyone regardless of race, national origin, disability, presence of children, or any of the other legally protected classes. The ultimate goal is to educate your communities on fair housing issues, enforce the laws, and create strategies to ensure fair housing for all.
