Assistive Technology for MCAS Testing

Speech-to-Text Usage for Students Participating in MCAS Assessments

The Department is looking to collect input on the usage of “speech-to-text” programs during MCAS testing.

Speech-to-text software permits conversion of a dictated response into text format for students who are not able to generate a written response. It is permitted to be used as an accommodation on MCAS test(s) by a relatively small number of students with disabilities.
1. Please indicate the number of students you have who use speech-to-text programs as an accommodation during routine classroom work.
2. Please indicate the number of students you have who use speech-to-text programs as an accommodation for standardized testing, including MCAS.
3. If one or more of your students use speech-to-text in the classroom or on standardized tests, which type of device do they use to access these programs?
4. If one or more of your students use speech-to-text programs, which program(s) do they use most frequently?
