Word Meaning Study - Prototypes of Words

This survey is for the purposes of writing an MA thesis on semantics and it takes about 5 minutes to
complete. It is completely anonymous and all the data obtained in this survey will be processed and
used only for the purposes of writing the thesis.

I’m trying to discover what the prototypical forms of certain lexemes are. A prototype in linguistics is
the first thing that comes to mind after hearing a certain word. For example, the prototype of ‘tree’ for
many people might be a maple tree or a pine tree rather than a palm tree.

In this survey, you’ll be given numerous words and your task is, after the word disappears from the
screen, to click on the picture that describes best what you had imagined. If no picture suits you,
you’ll have the option to write your own ideas.
1. How old are you? *This question is required.
2. Where do you live? *This question is required.
3. Is English your native language? *This question is required.
4. For every following question, you will see a word on the screen. Click "Next" and after the word disappears, please
choose the image that best describes what you thought of when you saw the word. If no given answer
suits you, please provide your own example.
