8. Was their evidence of commercial bias in this session? ​
9. A 47 year old female patient who is s/p gastric bypass for weight loss presents with fatigue, SOB and irritability. SHe reports her menses are about every 4 weeks and denies they are heavier than usual for her.  You check her iron studies and her ferritin is 5ng/ml, TIBC is 450 ug/dl, Hgb is 9 gm/dl, MCV is 78 and % iron saturation is 6.  You recommend the following treatment for her:
Incorrect.  Patient with gastric bypass cannot absorb oral iron and IV iron is indicated.

A 65 year old woman with hypothyroidism, type 2 diabetes mellitus (A1c 8) and obesity presents with fatigue and SOB.  Upon further questioning, she admits to paresthesias in her feet.  Laboratory data shows Hgb 10 gm/dl, MCV 112, B12 is 190 pg/ml.  Other laboratory data shows methylmalonic acid 1.2 umol/L (normal<=0.40).
