Informed Consent Form

Our names are Stephanie, Alexandra, and Lauren, and we are senior research students at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. We are inviting you to participate in our research study, which is being sponsored by Dr. Erchull of the psychology department. Participation in this study is completely voluntary.

The purpose of the study is to learn about young women's exposure to various forms of media in relation to their attitudes and behaviors.

If you choose to participate, you will complete an online questionnaire. This will take approximately 30 minutes of your time. All of your responses will remain anonymous. You do not have to answer any question that makes you feel uncomfortable, and you may end the survey at any time.

The benefits of this study include an increased knowledge of how women's attitudes toward mass media may affect their resulting behaviors and/or attitudes. We do not anticipate that you will encounter any long-term negative consequences as a result of your participation in this study, but you may feel uncomfortable with individual questions since we are asking about personal issues. As a reminder, you may skip any questions that make you feel uncomfortable, you may end the survey at any time, and your responses will remain anonymous.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact Stephanie Lichiello at slichiel@mail.umw.edu.

This study has been approved by the institutional review board of the University of Mary Washington.
