Pending funding support provided by a USDA Professional Development Opportunity for Secondary School Teachers (PD-STEP) grant, NAAE, on behalf of the CASE initiative, is seeking 22 teachers to participate as a cohort in a multi-year grant program. The grant will provide awardees the following benefits:
  • Full registration fee to complete specialization course certification in either the Animal and Plant Biotechnology (APB) or Food Science and Safety (FSS) CASE Institute during summer 2018. Please note: travel is not provided and is the responsibility of the school or teacher.
  • Full registration fee to complete capstone course certification in Agricultural Research and Development (ARD) through an online professional development during either the fall 2018 or the summer 2019.
  • Up to 55 CASE Online accounts provided over two years for students enrolled in specialization and capstone courses to complete End-of-Course Assessments.
  • $500 in Ward's Scientific products plus a 25% Ward's Scientific discount to assist in the implementation of the specialization and capstone CASE courses.
  • The total value of the grant is estimated to be approximately $6,125.00 per awardee.

Grant Program Guidelines and Information
  1. To be eligible for this grant, each applicant must be an agriculture teacher who is currently certified and teaching Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) and either Principles of Agricultural Science - Animal (ASA) or Principles of Agricultural Science - Plant (ASP) CASE courses.
  2. Each applicant must prepare an application and supporting documents and submit the complete package during the course of this application. The deadline is April 15, 2018, however grant applications will be granted after review of qualifications until all available grants have been awarded.
  3. The grant applications will be evaluated by NAAE and CASE staff. Those applicants selected to receive grants will be notified by April 2018; unsuccessful applicants will also be notified.
  4. Successful applicants will receive a grant to participate in the 2018 APB or FSS CASE Institute of their choice as designated by their grant application. Dates and locations for the 2018 CASE Institutes are on the CASE website at http://www.case4learning.org.

  6. Each application submitted must include the following:
    • which specialization CASE Institute you wish to attend, including which course and the location and dates of the institute (select through a dropdown box). For a complete list of institute options, see the CASE website;
    • applicant's resume detailing career history, leadership, and service activities (upload as a word document or PDF);
    • narrative no more than 300 words detailing why you wish to implement the pathway you selected and the potential impact on students pursing a pathway of study (insert or paste into text box);
    • narrative no more than 300 words detailing the financial need for this grant and the impact of this grant on low income and underserved student populations (insert or paste into text box); and
    • letter of support from a program supporter such as a school administrator, local agriculture industry leader, advisory council member, or parent of a currently enrolled student indicating the commitment to the CASE initiative (upload as a word document or PDF).
