New Masters by Research: Healthy Ageing Futures

The School of Design within the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building at UTS announces an exciting new Masters by Research: Healthy Ageing Futures Cluster commencing in early 2018. This Masters by research program brings together candidates and leading academics in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary cluster.
 
Working across the disciplines of product and service design, interactivity and media, system design, visual design, spatial, architecture, health sciences and business, the collaborative program engages existing design and health competencies and applies them to questions that investigate health, active and ageing models and product service systems.
 
The Masters by Research themes are focused on one or several of the program’s main research areas:
• Holistic, integrated or collaborative elderly care and living models to enable ageing in place
• Health service and product systems to support dementia, mental health and palliative care


The Masters by Research cluster undertakes practice-based and traditional research and is based ethnographic research • human-centred design • co-design • system design • inclusive design • future foresight • accelerating technologies. The academic leads are Professor Lawrence Wallen and Vivien Sung.

The full-time program is suitable for interested candidates with backgrounds in Design, Service, Interaction and Visual Design, Spatial Design, Architecture, Visual Arts, Robotics, Health Sciences and Nursing and Business. Limited spaces are available. Successful local applicants are eligible for fee exemption.

The one year Masters by Research program provides the opportunity to
  • Undertake a distinct investigation that involves a practice-based research project and thesis component
  • Work in a small, select collaborative inter-and transdisciplinary cluster
  • Engage in regular knowledge-sharing workshops and seminars
  • Receive academic support by leading academics
  • Develop links with leading industry experts, community and government
  • Build knowledge in an area of healthy and active ageing research
  • Enhance insights and hands-on design research, future-orientated thinking and problem-solving skills on complex challenges
Expressions of interest for the 2018 program are open to practice-based and research active academics.
Requirements: Undergraduate honours degree
