EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the SCAI 2018 Scientific Sessions, participants should be able to:
  • Assess the most recent scientific advances, clinical evidence, techniques, challenges, and opportunities within the field of interventional cardiovascular medicine and congenital heart disease.
  • Use the appropriate diagnostic studies and clinical guidelines for the evaluation of acute coronary syndromes and stable ischemic heart disease, and to apply new pharmacologic and interventional approaches to manage patients.
  • Appropriately select newly developed devices, techniques, and therapies for the treatment of cardiovascular disease to improve early and late clinical outcomes after coronary/peripheral/structural heart disease interventions.
  • Implement quality-based practices, including appropriate use criteria, clinical guidelines, consistent documentation, and assignment of quality metrics for interventional procedures.
  • Collaborate with administration and cath lab team members to optimize operations, better understand the new Medicare Quality Payment Program, and meet the requirements of Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs) or Merit-Based Incentive Payment Systems (MIPS).
  • Recognize and avoid the occupational hazards associated with the practice of interventional medicine and understand strategies to address radiation reduction and orthopedic risk.
