Title: What is the Public Perception and Expectation of the Prison Service and prison life?

Researchers: Philippa Harding (pkh8@le.ac.uk) and supervised by Dr. Julie Blackwell-Young (jaby1@le.ac.uk) at the University of Leicester, School of Psychology.

What were the aims of the study?

This study aimed to investigate the public's perception and expectation of the Prison Service and prison life. Participation involved providing answers to a 41 item, multiple choice questionnaire online. Respondents were also required to state their age, gender, whether or not they had been a victim of crime and whether or not they had prison experience (worked in, volunteered in or visited a prison).

The hypotheses were:

1) Gender will have a significant effect on perception of prison life.

2) Prison experience will have a significant effect on perception of the prison service.

3) Having been a victim of crime will have a significant effect on a person's perception of the Prison Service.

4) Gender will have a significant effect of a person's expectation of prison life

5) Prison experience will have a significant effect on the public's expectation of prison life.

6) Having been a victim of crime will have an effect on expectation of prison life.

How can I contact the researcher if I have any questions or if, for any reason, I wish to withdraw my data once I have left?
