ELC Application 2019

Application to join the the Coalition for Juvenile Justice's Emerging Leaders Committee

Thank you for your interest in joining the Coalition for Justice's (CJJ) Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC). The ELC will make recommendations to the CJJ leadership and Executive Board, and support youth member recruitment, promote youth engagement across all organizational projects, programs and activities. Members will also play a key role in shaping and broadening the scope/scale of CJJ's youth partnership work over the coming years. 

If selected, you will be expected to participate in monthly 1-hour long conference calls and actively participate in ELC projects. This will include timely responses to emails, phone calls, text messages, etc., with CJJ staff and fellow committee members. You will also have to follow through on any and all commitments that you make to the ELC's work.

Instructions:

  • Optional: Recommendation letters (No more than three).

Applications are due by November 6, 2018 at EST 11:59PM (AST 11:59PM, CST 11:59PM, PST 11:59PM). A limited number of applicants will be selected for an interview during the review process. If an applicant is selected for an interview, they will be contacted directly.

Requirements:
This ideal applicant will have the following experiences, skills and qualities:
  • not over the age of 24;
  • previous or current juvenile justice involvement (i.e., aftercare, detention, incarceration, parole probation and/or residential placement.) and/or interested in juvenile justice reform; and
  • eagerness to learn and listen.
The ideal applicant will have some of the following experiences, skills and qualities:
  • writing and/or public speaking skills;
  • political awareness;
  • ability to work well others;
  • will adhere to the committee bylaws (included below).
