LEED Canada for Homes Public Consult on Energy

Page One

Since 2009, nearly 2000 homes across the country have registered with LEED Canada for Homes. The success of the program is driving a call from the market for improvements to ensure continued progress. The Canada Green Building Council is responding by seeking feedback on a proposed change aimed at ensuring the rating system continues to advance green home construction across the country. Now is your chance to help shape the future of the program – please take a minute to respond to the following survey questions. In order to better understand the feedback we collect, we would like to first find out a little about you, then follow up with the energy question.

Raise EA1 (Performance path) Prerequisite as follows:

• Raise minimum from 76 towards EnerGuide 80.

• Provide alternate compliance paths for Novoclimat and Energy Star.

(Note the prescriptive equivalent may also improve to a similar level)

Reasoning: Moving to an EnerGuide score of 80 is recommended by the LEED Canada for Homes Technical Advisory Group in consideration of the fact that of the nearly 200 homes certified to date, 98% have achieved an equivalent or better score. In addition, the Technical Advisory Group recognizes that building codes in a number of jurisdictions across the country are becoming more stringent.
