On the following page, you will be asked to provide some details such as age and occupation. These questions are not compulsory, but would be helpful in the analysis of the results of this survey.
In each of the subsequent sections, you will be presented with three 30 second excerpts from different pieces of music (the first is referred to as the "seed" song, the others as A and B respectively). You may listen to each excerpt as many times as you wish, and you can use the position slider to skip through the piece. It is not compulsory to listen to each excerpt in its entirety; if you feel that you have a clear impression of the piece before the end of the clip you are free to move on.
You will then be asked to select which excerpt (A or B) you feel is most similar to the seed song in terms of rhythm.
The concept of musical rhythm can be understood in different ways. For this reason, at the end of the survey you will be given the opportunity to explain how you chose to interpret the notion of "rhythmic similarity".
There are 18 seed songs in total; the survey should take around 30 minutes to complete.
