The Agnes Scott ring was first awarded in 1938 and has only been changed slightly since then . The ring ceremony is relatively new – it was started in the early 1990s, created by an alumna and associate dean of students, Karen Greene. Before there was an official ceremony students received their rings with little fanfare.
Karen Greene knew the many long traditions of the Agnes Scott Ring, recognized its symbolic power, and enshrined it in a special ceremony of its own, making this ceremony one of the most highly anticipated traditions among students.
