New Feature: Copying SurveyGizmo 2.6 Surveys into SurveyGizmo 3.0

Posted by 5 Responses Filed in: How-to articles, SurveyGizmo Updates, Tips

We have some exciting news to share! You can now copy your existing SurveyGizmo 2.6 surveys into SurveyGizmo 3.0.

That means you can now take advantage of the increased speed, slicker user interface, plethora of new themes and templates, and the ton of other new features that SurveyGizmo 3.0 has to offer!

What does it mean to copy a survey from 2.6 to 3.0?

  • You are making a duplicate of a survey you have created in 2.6 over to 3.0.
  • You are copying: Survey Questions, Survey Logic, & Survey Pages

Are there things that are NOT copied?

Yes, because SurveyGizmo 3.0 is much more advanced than 2.6 there are certain things that will not be converted. These include:

  • Themes – Don’t worry though! When copying your survey over, we will ask you to choose a new theme. If you have a custom theme, check out the converting custom themes from 2.6 to 3.0 tutorial to learn more.
  • Data – Since this is a just a copy of a pre-existing survey in 2.6, we will not be moving data. The data will stay with your 2.6 survey and you’ll still be able to be able to access that data and run reports in 2.6. Think of it as if you’re pushing the copy button in SurveyGizmo 2.6 – You’re just making an exact duplicate of a survey you already have, it’s just going to be stored in a new place.
  • Merge Codes – You may need to update any merge codes that copied over. Check out the updated merge code tutorial to find out more.
  • Please review all Piping, Advanced Logic and Custom Scripting as these items may need to be reset in SurveyGizmo 3.0 in order to work optimally.

Why would I copy a survey over?

There are a ton of advantages to copying a survey over, so that you can use SurveyGizmo 3.0. Those include:

    • New templates and themes
    • More reporting options for Pro and Enterprise accounts
    • New reporting wizard for everyone
    • Easier to use drag & drop interface
    • Lightning quick reports & exports
    • New features rolling out every week!

So how do I copy a survey over?

It’s actually pretty simple. When you first log in, you’ll see a blue tab that says, “My SurveyGizmo 2.0 Projects”. Click on that tab (see image below).

Now you should see all of the surveys you have previously created using SurveyGizmo 2.6.

To the right of the survey names, you should see a column of blue arrows with the text “3.0″ inside of them. If you click on that, you will start the process of making a copy of that 2.6 survey into 3.0. (see image below)

Note – This WILL NOT MOVE your survey from 2.6 to 3.0, it will only create copy. The 2.6 survey will stay in 2.6 with its data for the “rest of its life”.

Just follow the conversion tool, and you’ll be good to go! RememberAlways test your survey before you send it out!

TipBe sure to test out your logic, scripting, and 3rd party integrations before you launch!

When I copy a 2.6 survey to 3.0, will the 3.0 survey keep the old survey’s launch URL? If not, what is the procedure for retaining the original launch URL?

    Hi Minh-Triet,
When you copy a 2.6 survey into 3.0, you will receive a new and different launch URL. If you need to redirect people from your old 2.6 survey to your new 3.0 survey, you can do so by launching your 3.0 survey. Copying the new 3.0 launch link and then going in and closing your 2.6 survey. Inside of the close message for the 2.6 survey add this html: <meta http-equiv=’Refresh’ content=’0; url=http://www.surveygizmo.com/’ > and replace where it says http://www.surveygizmo.com/ with whatever your 3.0 survey’s launch link is.
This will drive everyone who has the link for the 2.6 survey over to your new 3.0 survey automatically.
    Cheers!

Thanks Britany; a followup question: our 2.6 survey also has 2 URL parameters that are passed into it. Is it possible to use Merge codes or something else to pass those URL parameters from the old survey to the new one as well?

    Hi Ming-Triet,
I’m not 100% sure about that one. Your best bet would be put in a Support/Help ticket and have our amazing support team answer that one for you.
    Cheers!
