Webinar Q & A

Migration to SurveyGizmo 3.0

Will I be required to convert all of my surveys to 3.0?
Once we do the full SurveyGizmo 3.0 release, within a few months we’ll contact you letting you know that we’ll need you to convert your surveys over. If you do not convert your surveys over, we will not automatically do this for you, because we don’t know what you are doing with the surveys. If you do not convert the surveys, we’ll archive them and you will need to contact our support team to gain access to them again.

Will deleted surveys, forms, etc. be converted to 3.0?
Anything that is deleted will not be automatically converted to 3.0.

Is there a set amount of time that version 2.0 will remain active?
Version 2.0 will be available for the next few months. We will most likely start requesting everyone to move over to SurveyGizmo 3.0 in June.

If you create a copy to 3.0 and “play” will it affect the results in the 2.0 version?
No, the copy and all the changes will stay in 3.0 and have no affect on your 2.0 version.

How long can we leave questions in the 2.0 format? Will there be a point when we HAVE to convert them?
Yes, there will be a time when you will have to move your surveys over. We will give you plenty of time before this happens, and will most likely happen after June 2010.

When you log in are you given an option as to which version to work on if you have surveys in both 2.0 and 3.0?
Yes, you will have a choice to work either in your 2.0 surveys or 3.0 surveys.

If we don’t manually move surveys over to 3.0 will they be lost when you close/turn off 2.0? (In other words, you won’t be migrating/moving surveys for clients, will you?)
Any surveys that you don’t migrate will be archived by us. In order to access any of the archived surveys, you will need to contact our support team.

Do you expect problems when moving a survey to 3.0? I’m afraid of moving themes, customized themes, etc.
We do not expect any issues when moving a survey to 3.0. If you have any apprehensions, we recommend creating a copy of survey and moving over the copy first. That way you can make any necessary changes to the survey before you move it.

Following up on an earlier question. If you copy your survey from 2.0 to 3.0 and then play with it, make some changes to the logic, when you then migrate your survey fully (with the responses, etc), will the changes you made to the survey in 3.0 be overwritten?
When you make a copy of the survey and move it over to SurveyGizmo 3.0, it will be it’s own entity. Both the copy in 3.0 and the original in 2.0 are separate entities. So the changes you make in the copy in 3.0 will never have any effect on the original survey in 2.0.

We have a survey in progress, which will end in June. Is there a point where we will have to migrate and when will that be?
We do not believe so. We will give you plenty of notice before we make moving over to SurveyGizmo 3.0 mandatory, and will try to accommodate individual needs.

Please review cross-browser support (IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome) for both surveygizmo portal and published surveys.
We test all of SurveyGizmo in all the typical browswers including, Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

How about scalability & performance of the new version? are there significant improvements that we need to be aware of?
We have improved many things on the back-end of SurveyGizmo. Also we have increased the amount of Ajax within the survey creation process, so creating surveys should run much quicker.

Security & Accessibility

Can you share more on your security options, e.g. SSL/https?
As in SurveyGizmo 2.0, we offer the ability to send out SSL/https survey links at the Enterprise level.

Have you added accessibility features for users with disabilities, such as low vision or blind users?
We have been working hard to make SurveyGizmo the most accessible online survey software. While surveys themselves have become more accessible for the survey taker, we are still in the process of making the survey creation process more accessible. Since every individual user’s accessibility needs are different, we highly suggest testing your survey to make sure it works the way you need it to.

Our survey data sometimes needs to be secure on our server – patient information. Is there now a way to do this?
Currently, all survey data is originally stored on our servers. If you would like to collect the data through us, export it out to your servers and then have us completely delete the data, we can do this.

Can you talk about if Survey Gizmo is HIPAA compliant. I work at a University and will be collecting personal health information.
Yes, SurveyGizmo is HIPAA compliant. We have many Universities that use us as well. You can find more information about our HIPAA compliance here: http://www.surveygizmo.com/survey-blog/online-survey-hipaa-safe-harbor-certification/

Will you be publishing a VPAT for Section 508 compliance on your website?
Yes, we actually have one published already. Here you go: http://www.surveygizmo.com/downloads/SurveyGizmo_VPAT_v1.pdf

Will surveys from 2.0 Converting to 3.0 become ADA Compliant?
We have been working hard to make SurveyGizmo the most accessible online survey software. While surveys themselves have become more accessible for the survey taker, we are still in the process of making the survey creation process more accessible. Since every individual user’s accessibility needs are different, we highly suggest testing your survey to make sure it works the way you need it to.

Reporting

Did you include statistic testing in the crosstab?
No, we have not added statistic testing to Crosstabs, but it is on our feature request list.

Did you include semantic scale questions (with labels at each end of the scale?
No, the semantic question is not going to make it into the January release.

Wondering if I can clean survey data, then save-as within SG? Embedded reports don’t help me if I can’t do this. How about rules-based automatic data cleansing?
Yes, you can go into individual responses and either delete or change them and then save them to clean the data. We currently do not have automatic data cleansing.

How much will we be able to customize reports? graphically, etc.
You will have full control over your reports. You can easily upload your logo, change background and font colors.

What about import/export? Can you import to the questionnaire? Can you import data? It doesn’t look like exporting Questionnaire has improved?
Currently, we have not changed any of the import/export functionality. So you can still export all your data as well as export your survey via the export to PDF function.

Will we be able to export to SAS?
Currently we do not export to SAS.

Can you import colors into the reports in this version?
Yes, you can put in custom colors inside of reports.

Is it possible to send a client a link to the reporting capabilities, so they can create and modify their own reports?
You can definitely send them a link and they will be able to add filters to their reports to modify the report.

Is there any way to make the report look like the survey? That is, the same layout/look and feel?
With the new reporting controls, you can now upload a logo, change colors and fonts through a customize wizard. You can also insert your own CSS to report.

Can I group questions for reporting? For example If I have 120 questions that measure 4 basic factors – can I get averages of 30 questions that make up each of the factors in the report?
Currently not at this time. We have implemented a new tool called User Voice within SurveyGizmo 3.0. Just click on the feedback link on the right side of your account to vote on which features we should tackle next.

Is there now a way to edit a response or do you still have to wait the 7 days to make edits to a particular response?
You will be able to edit a response. It will not be available until we do the full SurveyGizmo 3.0 launch.

Are you able to do high to low comparisons?
Currently, not at this time. We have implemented a new tool called User Voice within SurveyGizmo 3.0. Just click on the feedback link on the right side of your account to vote on which features we should tackle next.

My surveys are “named” companyname.#####.sgizmo.com. Will that have to be set up in 3.0?
No, all your subdomains will automatically move over to SurveyGizmo 3.0.

Can you embed reports from other surveys into your current survey?

Yes, you can embed any type of code you need to into your survey.

Do you have ability to easily print a copy of the survey if you have a few people you need to mail the survey if they don’t have web access?
Yes, you can use the Export Survey To PDF button within your Enterprise account. Then from the PDF, you can print it out.

I am interested in learning about new reporting functionality. I would like to be able to combine data from different surveys for comparison purposes
As long as the surveys are copies of each other, you can create a combined summary report from it. Otherwise, you will need to export the surveys and then use Excel or SPSS to analyze.

Templates, Images, & Themes

Will our survey templates with our logos be moved into 3.0? Or will we have to reload those ourselves?
All images will move over to 3.0. We do suggest you create a copy of all Live surveys and check to make sure the copy looks OK, before moving over the Live survey.

Will our library images automatically move to 3.0? Or do we have to load them separately? Will the images load quicker?
The images will automatically move over to SurveyGizmo 3.0. Depending on the size, the images should load quicker as well.

Can you copy a custom theme from SurveyGizmo 2.0?
You can copy and then paste your custom theme from SurveyGizmo 2.0 to SurveyGizmo 3.0. Doing this does not give you all the features of SurveyGizmo 3.0 customization. So you may want to create a completely new theme in 3.0.

I saw the mobile theme in the theme library. does that mean it can be seen on a blackberry or iphone easilly? or that it just looks like a phone?
The mobile theme is made for iPhones. So it should look great on the iPhone, but you will want to test it out on a Blackberry, since the factory web browser is not that great.

In the initial setup of the survey are you now able to upload your logo from your C: drive?
You will still need to upload your logo to our image library from you C: drive first. Then once you have done this, you’ll be able to choose it when you create your surveys.

Survey Publishing

We have a java version of a contest on our website. The contest is running TFN. If we move it to 3.0, will we need to copy/paste new java code or will the code stay the same?
Yes, you will need to copy and paste the new code.

When migrating a survey do the dynamic links remain the same or will I have to change hard coded links?
When you move a survey over, the links to the survey will change. You will need to change your links when you migrate over.

If some people will be taking the survey via web and others are going to be mailed the survey. Do you have options/services for mailed surveys?
You will be able to give them the link to survey online in your mailer. You can also export the survey to PDF, and then print it out for people take. Any surveys taken on paper will need to be inputed in to SurveyGizmo in order to understand all results.

Have you changed anything with the survey links themselves….for instance, can links be password-protected and secure at the same time?
In our current version, you able to send out a secure link and put a password on the first page of your survey. If you are talking about reporting, you now have the ability to password protect reports as well.

Can you access a survey just with a supplied “survey code” ?
You will need to give a link to a survey or embed it into a website in order to take the survey.

Show how to embed a survey in a web page
To embed a survey, just select all the JavaScript, iFrame, or HTML code, and copy and paste it into your own website.

Does the website pop-up delivery have a mechanism such that it doesn’t get served to someone who’s already completed the survey?
Not at this time. We have implemented a new tool called User Voice within SurveyGizmo 3.0. Just click on the feedback link on the right side of your account to vote on which features we should tackle next.

Can you explain the improvements to the Private Domain handling? In particular, the save and continue functionality with a private domain.
We will now be running the Private Domain off of the same servers as everything else. So the Save and Continue functionality should work correctly with the private domain. Although this feature will not be part of the SurveyGizmo 3.0 Preview Release. It will be pushed out live when SurveyGizmo 3.0 releases.

API

Will the API with ExactTarget continue to be supported?
Yes, the API has not changed. So the ExactTarget integration will stay the same.

Where can I access an updated API doc for 3.0 – are there any changes to the API?
We have not updated the API for the SurveyGizmo 3.0 release. When we do update the API, we will let you know as well as update our API doc here: http://www.surveygizmo.com/survey-support/tutorials/online-survey-api-integration-cms-intranet/

Survey Design

Can we create blocks of questions that can be rotated randomly?
Yes, you can either use our branching logic to do this, or use the “show X random questions on a page” under the page options and logic.

What is a quota?
A quota tracks a certain demographic group you want represented in your survey sample and then closes the survey to additional people meeting that criteria once it’s filled. For instance you may want 400 men and 400 women to take your survey. And you also want 200 of each gender who own American cars and 200 who don’t. You would have four quotas all together 1) 200 Men with American Cars, 2) 200 Men without American Cars, 2) 200 Women with American Cars, and 4) 200 Women without American Cars, . Once you have 200 men who answered they own American cars the survey would stop accepting any more responses from that group but would the remain unfilled groups continued access to the survey.

Will there be a guide to the new scripting functionality?
We have not made any updates to the custom scripting functionality at this time. When we do make updates, we will include a guide to the changes.

New 48-hour test URL: will the test survey reflect changes made after the test URL is sent to clients?
Yes, it will.

Are you going to have custom radio buttons and checkboxes?
We currently support web standards, and customizing radio buttons and checkboxes, and web standards have universal radio buttons and checkboxes. The reason we will not do this is because of accessibility. And we believe we need to make all surveys accessible for radio button and checkbox questions.

Can the error messages be displayed as a javascript popup as well?
Currently not at this time. We have implemented a new tool called User Voice within SurveyGizmo 3.0. Just click on the feedback link on the right side of your account to vote on which features we should tackle next.

Will it be easier to embed Flash media (.swf)?
We will continue to support embedding any type of .swf file as well as any type of HTML inside of your survey.

Where do you place the quotas in the survey?
You can add and set quotas under your Survey Settings link, under Edit Survey

Does save and continue now take the user back to where he/she left off (as opposed to going back to page 1?
Yes, with SurveyGizmo 3.0, we now allow the user to go back to where they left off when they use Save and Continue.

How manipulatable is the save and continue button as far as location, style etc.?
The Save and Continue button can now be moved either to the top or the bottom of your survey, just by clicking a drop-down button.

Please demonstrate creating a scored quiz where users get “correct/incorrect” after answering each question.
We actually have a whole tutorial on that over here: http://www.surveygizmo.com/survey-support/tutorials/quizzes-quiz-score/

When I have an external database with demographic info, can I upload them into an SG survey matching data using the email addresses?

Yes, you can do this using our email invitation system. When you upload contacts, use the upload contacts from CSV file or Import from SalesForce.com.
Please explain enhancements to automatically schedule / send “Reminder Email Invitations
There were not any upgrades made to the email invitation system. We will be overhauling the email invitation system in future releases.

Please explain enhancements to enable saving contacts, across surveys, for use in publishing email invitations to complete surveys.
There were not any upgrades made to the email invitation system. We will be overhauling the email invitation system in future releases.

Will custom coding in our current survey be a problem with the upgrade?
All custom coding should work in SurveyGizmo 3.0, but we recommend you make a copy of your survey and check out the custom coding before fully converting the original survey.

Can you give some details regarding the new language capabilities?
You will be able to create multiple versions of the same survey in different languages and send out one link to the different surveys.

Also, are there any plans to allow the use of Xliff importing/exporting?
Currently, not at this time.

I’d like to know how to pre-populate fields (such as address) in a survey that allows people to update the information if it has changed.

You can definitely do that. You can either use the email invitation system to do this or use our query string tutorial here: http://www.surveygizmo.com/survey-support/tutorials/pushing-values-query-string/

Can you use a touch screen to do the drag and drop?
Currently, we do not believe it works with a touch screen.

Can you talk about HTML auto-responders and any ease of access changes made there?

You are able to get to the email autoresponders through the Action button. From there you can still add your own HTML and customize it completely.

I want to be able to “Preview” my survey from any point in the survey without having to go through the entire survey (for example: to test logic in a certain question to make sure it is working correctly). Does 3.0 allow this?
Yes, you can do this in both version. When you go to Preview your survey, in the upper right hand corner, there is a drop-down box with page numbers in it. Just pick what page you want to jump to and select it.

Are the question ID #’s visible anywhere?
Yes, when you hover over them you can see them.

Am I to understand that quota control by question and page logic will be available in 3.0 without the use of HTML and PHP?
Yes, you will be able to set multiple quotas in SurveyGizmo 3.0.

Are you improving the importation of contacts to send out specific invites and easier login?
You are currently able to import from an CSV file when using the email invitation system. We have not changed any part of the email invitation system in their iteration.

Are there any upgrades to the scripting functionality?
No, not at this time.

Will there a way to bulk edit the row headers in a table of check boxes style question in 3.0?
Yes, you can now bulk edit the row headers.

Third Party Integrations

How are you integrated with Salesforce.com? Can you pass lead or survey results data into lead or contact fields in salesforce.com?
Yes, you can defintely pass lead information from SalesForce into SurveyGizmo. Here is a tutorial on how to do that: http://www.surveygizmo.com/survey-support/tutorials/salesforce-integration/

Are there any updates to functionality with third party systems like salesforce?
Yes, we will be updating the SalesForce.com integration. We will also be putting it on the AppExchange in the near future.

Any widgets extending into MailChimp and/or Highrise CRM?
Currently, not at this time. But we are more than happy to take your feature requests. We have implemented a new tool called User Voice within SurveyGizmo 3.0. Just click on the feedback link on the right side of your account to vote on which features we should tackle next.

User Settings

Will the dashboard still show which account user created each survey?
Yes, the dashboard will still show who created each survey.
Please explain enhancements to User permissions for “Pro Subscription” (i.e. Allow assignment to more than one survey but not all surveys.)
Currently User permissions for PRO users have not been changed.

Is there any way of securing a survey within an account with multiple logins? For example, user 1 creates a survey, can that be kept to no person using a different login can change it?
At the Enterprise level, you can assign people certain surveys. To do this go to the Account Settings and then the User tab.

Do the widgets apply to just the individual user, or are they applied to all account users?
They are applied by individual user. Every person will be able to set their own.

Miscellaneous

What product did you say you were using for “submit an idea”?
We will be using User Voice to receive your feedback.
