Over the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed that we’ve been adding features like crazy. Well here’s another one to add to the ever-growing list – Cookie-based duplicate vote protection by link (what a mouthful!)

So what exactly is cookie-based duplicate vote protection by link and why in the world would you want to use it?

Well, to start off, it’s a unique way to make sure that your survey respondents can only take the survey once. This type of duplicate protection is based solely on a per link basis.

Meaning they will only be allowed to take your survey once for every unique link they are sent. So if a respondent were to get two different links to your survey, and cookie-based duplicate protection by link was checked off (see image below), they would be allowed to take the survey two times.

This feature is great if you want your respondents to take the survey more than once, but not more than “x” number of times. You would give them “x” number of unique links and would then know that they could only take the survey that many times.

To find out how to set up the duplicate protection by link, check out our cookie-based vote protection by link tutorial.

This feature is great if you wanted to keep sending follow-up surveys, and wanted to see how their results changed from one time to the next. You would then want to use a filter in the reports section to see the results per link. I’ll be covering filtering by link next week, so you’ll want to be sure to check it out.

We have always offered the ability to remove the Powered by SurveyGizmo link at the bottom of your surveys at the Enterprise level, and we just now released the ability to do it at the Pro level as well.

Many of you have been requesting this feature to be added to the Pro account for a while, and after some thought, we decided to move it down a notch over to the Pro level.

So that means that if you currently hold a Pro level account, you now can go to your Account Settings link and check off the “Default to “Off”" Option and the Powered by SurveyGizmo logo will automatically not show up whenever you create a new survey or form (See the image below).

If you prefer to shut the Powered by logo off on a per survey basis (many of our users like to keep it on there in order to make their surveys look more robust), you can do this by going to your survey’s Publish tab and clicking on the Customize link under your theme option.

You’ll then be taken to a page where you can select if you want to show page numbers, question numbers, and if you want to show the Powered by logo. Move the radio button to off over there, and you’ll be good to go (See the image below).

We hope you all enjoy the newest feature added to the Pro level and look forward to all the other new features and improvements we love to continuously roll out to you.

On Monday we did a large rollout that included numerous new features and improvements, including the ability to set different themes for a single survey. This is one of the most requested survey features, and you’ll now be able to use it.

Why would you want to use this feature?

There are a variety of ways and reasons you would want to use this, but the main one being that you want to use the same survey in numerous places but want to report on all the data in one place.

An example of this would be if you had a survey you wanted to send out to all your mobile phone users, embed on your website, and send out via a link in an email newsletter. More than likely, you would want to use a separate theme for each one of the ways you’re sending out your survey because each one has a unique format.

The mobile phone link would require a mobile phone theme in order for it to show up properly on a smart phone, the website embed would require the embed theme in order to integrate with your site the best, and the link on the email newsletter would need to be formatted in a completely different way because users will be taking the survey in separate webpage.

With the new functionality of having multiple themes for one survey, you can now easily do this.

How do you add multiple themes for one survey?

In adding this new functionality, we needed to move a few things around withing the Look & Feel and the Publish interface, so you’ll notice a couple of new links and ways to go get to the new feature.

First, you’ll want to set up your default theme, which in the example above would be the theme you’re using for the email newsletter link.

You do this the same way you normally set up a theme. Head over to the Look & Feel link and click the customize link (as Shown below).

Once you’re done formatting that, you’ll want to head over to the Publish tab to create the other links you’ll be sending out. We’ll start out by creating a link for the mobile phone surveys.

Create a weblink like you normally would, and go into the link’s editing options (these will automatically pop-up when you click to create the link). Click on the Themes tab on the right hand side. Then Select “Yes” in the second section where it says “Override Default Mobile”. This gives you the ability to select which mobile theme you want your users to see your survey in. (See the image below)

Next, we’ll set up the embeddable survey. Create another weblink like you did before. Click on the Themes tab on the left hand side and then select “Yes” under Theme Settings for this Link/Campaign.

Scroll until you find the Embeddable theme and select that. (Shown in the image below)

If you want to go in and edit the theme to change colors or turn off page titles, etc, all you have to do is hover over the link that you want to change and click on the multiple colored square that appears in the right hand side. (Show in the the image below)

This will put you into the theme editor, and you’ll be able to change anything that you need.

Now each one of your links has specific formatting. We hope you enjoy this feature, and if you have any questions, please let us know!

So to go along with the list of new features added to SurveyGizmo this week, we’ve also given the survey builder interface a face-lift to make your survey creation process a little easier.

What have we done? Well, now you can get more information about your questions without having to even click the edit button and open up each individual question.

If you check out the image below, you’ll see the new Question Information at a Glance Column.
This shows you the Question ID, the Template hook names & aliases (if you have assigned any), and it let’s you toggle the required question and question numbering on/off.

Now if you decide you no longer want to require a couple of your questions, all you have to do is uncheck the boxes on the side instead of having going into each individual question. You’re survey building life just got 10 times easier!

We also color coded the feedback on any questions and pages you have. If you check out the images below you’ll see that any logic you have a on a page or question will always be shown in the color purple and any validation you have will always be shown in the color green.

We hope you like the changes we made to the editor and it helps you get your work done quicker!

Have you noticed all the new features that we’ve been rolling out lately? Our developers have been hard at work adding features to SurveyGizmo to make it even more robust then ever!

This week we’ve added a brand-new reporting feature that I’m sure any small business will undoubtedly find extremely helpful — the TURF Report.

What is a TURF report, you say?

Well, TURF stands for Total Unduplicated Reach and Frequency. What does that really mean?

Let me give you an example!

Let’s say you own an ice cream shop and are trying to decide on which 3 new flavors to add to your menu. You want to know which flavors will make the most customers happy which will in turn result in higher profits.

You send out a survey and tell your customers to pick from a list of 20 new flavors their top 3.

You get the results back and according to your summary report people voted like the following:

Chocolate Chocolate Chip – 20 votes
Strawberry Short Cake – 12 votes
Vanilla Milkshake – 11 votes
Rocky Road – 9 votes
Purple Paradise – 8 votes
Wisconsin Cheese – 6 votes
Caramel Surprise – 5 votes

From the list above you would assume that the 3 flavors you should pick in order to make the most people happy would be Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Strawberry Short Cake, and Vanilla Milkshake — they got the most votes after all.

This is where the TURF report comes into play. It measures not only how many times people voted but which combination of results will give you the furthest reach (make the most people happy).

Back to our little example, it turns out that the combination of:
Chocolate Chocolate Chip
Vanilla Milkshake
Rocky Road

will make the most people happy. Why is that?

Because the people who voted for Chocolate Chocolate Chip also voted for Strawberry Short Cake. But the people who voted for Rocky Road didn’t vote for Chocolate Chocolate Chip or Vanilla Milkshake. By adding Rocky Road to your menu, you’re making new people happy, while still making the Chocolate Chocolate Chip/Strawberry Short Cake lovers happy too.

That was just a quick example of what a TURF report can do for you. To check out a real-life example of how SurveyGizmo used the TURF as well as step-by-step instructions, you’ll want to head over to the new TURF Report Tutorial.

As always, if you have any questions or want to let us know how you use the TURF, leave some comment love!

Snap, crackle, POP-UP AND POP-UNDER SURVEYS

Have no fear, our new pop-up and pop-under features are here to increase your survey participation and ease your survey takers’ experience.

“What are pop-up and pop-under surveys?”

Pop-up surveys open a new window for the survey on top of the user’s current browser.

Pop-under surveys open in a new window for the survey behind the user’s current browser.

“Okay, but what can that do for me?”

By opening surveys in another window, your survey takers can take surveys without leaving the page they began on, increasing the simplicity of their experience.

Also, pop-up and pop-under surveys increase survey completion by opening a distinct window for your survey.

“How can I make my surveys into a pop-up or pop-under survey?”

First, log in and pull up the survey you would like to make a pop-up or pop-under. If you have not launched your survey already, launch it. Under the publish tab of the survey editor you will find a box titled ‘Add a new Link or Campaign’. In the top right section of this box are two links: ‘Website Pop-Up’ and ‘Website Pop-Under’.

Choose which option you would like to use for your survey. After selecting your preference you will enter the Link/Campaign Editor for Website Pop-Up/Under. In this editor you can name your pop-up action, activate it, set response quotas.

In this editor you will also find a button labeled ‘View Embed Code’. Click this to retrieve the embed code to make your survey a pop-up or pop-under on your website. Just copy this code and paste it into your blog or website and voila!

Have you ever noticed a large number of partial completions of your survey? Have you ever wanted to know what you could fix in order to get people to finish your survey?

Well, we have a fantastic answer for you! If you have an Enterprise or above level account, you now have the ability to run a Page Fall Off Report. This report (shown below) can show you on what page people stop taking your survey in a visual manner.

We hope that by providing this report, it will help you with your survey design as well as increase your completion rates. After all, the most important part about creating a survey is to be able to analyze the completed data one you’re done.

Happy Surveying!
