In all likelihood, you have used a Likert scale (or something you’ve called a Likert scale) in a survey before. It might surprise you to learn that Likert scales are a very specific format and what you have been calling Likert may not be. Not to worry — researchers that have been doing surveys for… Read More »
Web Forms » Lead Generation Form
Turning website visitors into potential customers or partners is one of the most powerful uses of a survey — or in this case a web form. To be successful these lead generation forms need to blend seamlessly into your existing site, be compact and easy for your visitors to complete, and give you the ability to reach out to your prospective contact in the right way, at the right time. SurveyGizmo provides a number of tools to make this easy.
Survey Goal
A lead generation form allows you to capture and create a relationship with new contacts, usually with people who barely have time for another conversation or email. This makes generating a new prospect a delicate balancing act – a generic contact form can suggest endless sales calls and spam emails, yet a lengthy survey form with too many questions is unlikely to be completed. Your goal is to offer prospects something valuable in exchange for the opportunity to reach out to them.
Survey Questions
With your survey goal in mind, you can starting crafting your questions. One or two thoughftul questions about what your user is looking for can help earn trust and get the new relationship going in the right direction. At the same time, don’t ask for information that you don’t really need. For example, only ask for a phone number if a phone call is the best way to help move this new relationship forward. If you are not sure, make it optional rather than required. The key is, if you are in contact you can always ask for more information – if you ask for too much up front, you may never speak to them.
Appearance & Branding
When creating your lead generation form, as with other survey forms that might be embeded on your site, be sure to modify or customize the theme (appearance) to fit the feel of the overall site. Also, the use of a custom group or contact group can keep the overall size of the form to a minimum.
Supporting Process
Great! You now have an effective form collecting prospective contact information on your site – what happens when its completed?
Most effective lead generation forms have an action built into them that gets the ball rolling for you and for your new contact. You might use one of SurveyGizmo’s integrations to subscribe your new contact to an email list with ExactTarget or Mailchimp, or you might add the contact as a record within a SalesForce campaign so a contact rep is automatically assigned.
You could also use SurveyGizmo’s send email action to send a thank you note to your new contact, perhaps with links to the information they indicated they were interested in, and another email to an internal manager who can ensure that the proper follow up happens in a timely fashion. You may even edit the responses over time to see which relationships mature, and make adjustments when needed.
Whatever your choice, the SurveyGizmo application makes it easy to follow through on your visitor’s initiative and get the most out of thier interest.
