In all likelihood, you have used a Likert scale (or something you’ve called a Likert scale) in a survey before. It might surprise you to learn that Likert scales are a very specific format and what you have been calling Likert may not be. Not to worry — researchers that have been doing surveys for… Read More »
Hide a Question by Default
What is this?
This feature allows you to hide a question from public view. You can change it at any time without negatively affecting your survey, so if you decide a question needs to go, you can change it quickly and easily by checking off this option.
When would I use this?
You may find that after having your survey live for some time that you no longer need a question or two. You still want to have that questions data available, so the best way to go about getting rid of it would be to hide it. You can hide it easily from publish view using this feature, but still have the question available for if you’d ever like to institute it again.
A great example of this would be if you are doing a survey that is year round, but you have a few questions that are only based on the season you’re distributing it. You can hide and unhide the irrelevant questions whenever you’d like so your survey is exactly how you want it!
For some of our more advanced users, you can also hide questions by default, and then use custom scripting to bring those questions up based on certain advanced conditions (that aren’t availble in our in-application logic). You could also use it for hiding error message that you then use custom scripting to show when certain criteria are met.
What should I avoid?
If you’re looking to actually capture data with a particular question, you want to avoid using this feature. Once you turn this feature on, your question is hidden from your respondent’s view, and they will never be able to see it without turning the feature off.
If you’re looking to hide your question only part of the time, based on a previous questions answer, we’d recommend actually using our show/hide triggers instead. To learn more, please see Show/Hide Triggers
