In all likelihood, you have used a Likert scale (or something you’ve called a Likert scale) in a survey before. It might surprise you to learn that Likert scales are a very specific format and what you have been calling Likert may not be. Not to worry — researchers that have been doing surveys for… Read More »
In Design, Launched, Closed, Deleted
The status of your survey is very important because it determines whether or not your survey can collect data, and if it can, whether it is marked as test or live data. We've recently changed the way that this works so please be sure to review the information below to understand exactly what each status now does.
First and foremost the statuses available are as follows:
- Testing (Previously 'In Design')
- Open (Previously 'Launched')
- Closed
- Deleted
Our 'In Design' phase is now called 'Testing' and 'Launched' is now 'Open because links will be available in all statuses now. Whether or not you collect test or live data will depend on the status you're in.
Please Note: When switching between Testing, Open, and Closed there may be a cache delay. This means that the links on your Distribute tab may still reflect an old status for up to 10 minutes after a change.
Benefits of This Change
- You can now change between statuses at will
- You don't have to worry about a test link not being delivered
- If you accidentally distribute your link while it testing phase, all you'll need to do is switch your status to open to make it live (and you can use the same link!)
Survey Status Options

Testing

Open
Whenever you switch from the status of Testing to Open, your survey links will become live, and therefore all responses recorded will no longer be marked as 'Test'. This means that the same link you were using for testing will now only collect live responses instead.
If you are concerned about situations in which testers may be late in taking your survey (and by the time they reason it, you've switched the survey status to open) you may want to create a brand new web link to differentiate between them (and close the original link).
Closed
Responses can no longer be collected in this status. Any respondent who attempts to access a survey link while your survey is in this status will receive a closed message.
Deleted
A Deleted survey no longer appears in the My Projects list on the Dashboard. Deleted projects can be restored with data by using All Projects dropdown to filter by Deleted Projects and clicking on the restore icon to the far right of the project.
