In all likelihood, you have used a Likert scale (or something you’ve called a Likert scale) in a survey before. It might surprise you to learn that Likert scales are a very specific format and what you have been calling Likert may not be. Not to worry — researchers that have been doing surveys for… Read More »

What is ClickTale?
Are you looking for much more analytics for your survey, well ClickTale can help!
Our ClickTale Integration allows you to use one of the most robust analytics tools on the web within SurveyGizmo. As it records more interaction data than most other analytics tools on the web, that means you can record and analyze your data within ClickTale on almost all of your respondents actions on your survey page.
What kind of data can I track?
When using the ClickTale Integration, you can track just about anything. You can even track if your respondent wrote something into your survey, then deleted it and replaced it with something else. Here are some of the other options you can record on as well:
- Where your respondents mouse goes even if they don't click
- Track data even if they never click the submit or next button (which means you can track your abandons!)
- Every click on the page (so you can see if someone changed their answer and to what)
- Full recordings of your users every movement
- To see more, please visit ClickTale's Features
When would I use this?
It's best to use this integration if you're really looking to dig deeper into the interactions of your customers with your survey. You may want to see their first impression before they changed their answer, or how they navigated about the page. This sort of information can help you to redesign and optimize your survey to it's utmost potential, and learn more about your customer base.
Great! How do I set this up?
ClickTale Account Set up
First, you'll need to create a new project.

1. Click on the 'Projects' option on the left hand side of the screen when you log in.
2. Click on 'Create a New project' (There will be two locations as highlighted above)
Step 1: Naming the Project

Once inside, name your project, and click 'Create'.
Step 2: Specifying your site traffic

A: Your Site Traffic: This section will allow you to estimate how many page views you're planning on receiving per day/week/month. This is only an estimation, but if you really do not know, you can select "Don't know".
B: Your Recording Ratio: This section allows you to put in a request for a specific percentage of your responses to be recorded. Generally it will provide you a recommended number, but if you need more or less, you can change it as needed.
C: Record Secure Pages: If you have a premium membership, you can request to record either "Only HTTP pages" or "Both HTTP and SSL/HTTPS pages". For more information regarding their plan levels, please visit: https://www.clicktale.com/pricing/plans.
Step 3: Get Tracking Code
Now that you've set up your project, the system will provide you with your tracking codes that you'll need to copy and paste into the SurveyGizmo application.
NOTE: We recommend opening up a new window with your SurveyGizmo account, and leaving this one open so you can easily access your code.
Once you're done with the SurveyGizmo set up below, you can click the "Done" button.
SurveyGizmo Set up
After you've logged into your SurveyGizmo account, go into your survey and click on the "Settings" button.

- Click on the 'Enable ClickTale Interaction Analytics' as highlighted above.
- Fill in the 'Top Embed Code:' and 'Bottom Embed Code: '(as found in your other open window in step 3 of clicktale.com)

NOTE: Please do not use the above code, it is unique to the specific account.
After you've finished entering the information, it should look something like this.
3. Click "Save Settings" at the bottom of the screen. Then you're all set to start! We recommend always testing these sort of integrations before distributing your survey to prevent any complications.
Reporting in Click Tale
ClickTale has several options for you to report in. Listed below are only a few different views you can view your data in.

First and foremost, please see above for the example question that we used for reference when looking at the images below. To the left of each images is a heatmap range. The redder the image is, the more people touched or looked at those sections. The cool blue colors are the places that were least interacted with.
Mouse Move

**NOTE**: The above image indicates multiple responses
The Mouse Move option allows you to see the overall mouse movements that your survey takers did while taking your survey (this is only the movement of the mouse, not the actual clicks). You can see by the large red spots over the questions and the next button that these were the most active spots when people moved their mouse around the page.
Mouse Click

**NOTE**: The above image indicates multiple responses
The Mouse Click heatmap shows you a little more of where the customers actually clicked. You can tell people clicked in a couple other places they didn't need to (which could have been attributed to coming back to a tab). Even though the dots are light blue, you can see people did click on each of the questions that way. For certain places such as the Next button and the third question, there were obviously more clicks than others because they're a more reddish color.
This heatmap can give you more of an idea of where your customers are clicking (and may help you to redesign your survey in the future.
Attention

**NOTE**: The above image is indicative of only one response
The Attention heat map shows you exactly where people focused on the most. This is best used in a survey with a long page. It'll let you know which sections people were looking at the most. For example, if you're conducting a test for your students, if there's a particularly hard question, you can tell exactly which section was spent the most time on.
Scroll-Reach

**NOTE**: The above image is indicative of only one response
The Scroll Reach heatmap allows you to see how far people scrolled down the page. This is more used for individual responses as opposed to the whole group (as shown above). This can let you know where people stopped scrolling (if you have a long page) and where they lost interest.
Individual Response Recordings
ClickTale, depending on your account level will allow you to view all of your individual response recording. These can be helpful when determining if certain questions were skipped, or what data someone may have entered at first glance, but changed later on.
If you'd like to see a quick (very quick) view of what an individual recording would look like, please see:
You'll notice each one of the circled items is a click, and the key above indicates which mouse button was used when clicking. For more reporting information, please visit your dashboard on ClickTale. These are only a few of the reporting features available.
