This kind of detailed question is probably better in our forums, but the short answer is Piping always uses reporting values so maybe you can use some shortened version of your title there. If you use the Other field the users answer will be piped in.

If I use Question 1 in demo with following options:
Dog | 1
Cat | 2
Ferret | 3
Other (specify) | 8

I would like to keep the answer codes 1, 2, 3, and 8 instead of using labels for codes in Q1. In the question which I want text piping, for example, "Why do you like ^the pet^?", I want to show text like "Dog" instead of codes 1, what should I use as syntax for piping. Moreover, if respondent selected "other" and typed in a new pet as as "goldfish", I want to show "goldfish" instead of code 8, what syntax should I use?

The current insert button for piping seems require Q1's label and code to be both actual text.

Thanks
