Survey Tip: Randomize Questions for Better Survey Data
Did you know that you can automatically have the answer options to your survey questions rotate so that one person views the answers arranged one way and the next person will see it a different way?
That’s pretty cool — but why would you want to do this?
One reason is to avoid any type of bias within your survey.
No matter how you try to design a question, the way you order your answer options can have an affect on how people answer.
(Remember during ACT or SAT classes how your teachers always told you to answer option “C” if you didn’t know the answer? I have a hunch that, that still has an effect on how people answer surveys.)
Well if this is going to help your survey respondents, how do you do it?
It’s actually extremely simple.
Click on the pencil icon to edit of your question and click on the Layout tab (under More). There you will a Sorting option. Select Randomize options and click on teh Save Question button at the botom. It’s a simple as that. You can check out the image below and see where it is.
