The Alumni Affairs Committee has identified three programs a PGY4 can apply to attend that will support mid-level residents' development of essential non-clinical skills that will be critical to their success as senior level residents and practicing clinicians, including the skills necessary to be more effective teachers and more successful leaders.
  1. ACGME Multi-specialty Leadership Skills Training Program for Chief Residents: Program is designed to introduce the essential skills required for rising and current chief residents to develop enhanced self-awareness and learn leadership concepts which increase individual effectiveness in a leadership role.
  2. ACS Resident as Teachers and Leaders Course: Course established to help mid-to-senior-level surgery residents develop skills for residents' roles as teachers, leaders and practicing surgeons. The course specifically addresses the skills necessary to be more effective teachers and more successful leaders.
  3. AOA Resident Leadership Forum: The program will develop enhanced leadership skills through dynamic presentations. Attendees will learn leadership strategies to share with other residents in their training program. They will also have opportunities to work with other senior resident leaders, AOA mebers and engage with expert speakers.
