Breeder Host Self-Assessment

1. Do you live within a 75 mile drive of Southeastern Guide Dogs' campus at 4210 77th St. Palmetto, FL 34221? (to be confirmed via Google Maps) *This question is required.
2. Are you financially prepared to host a breeder?

Breeder Hosts are responsible for purchasing:
  • Flea and tick prevention (through our Veterinary Center),
  • Pre-approved food 
  • Crate
  • Collar
  • Leash
  • Toys

3. Southeastern Guide Dogs is part of a national breeding cooperative and sometimes will send breeders to other schools for breeding and whelping. Are you willing to accept Southeastern Guide Dogs’ choices of whelping location, age of retirement, and any other matters related to breeding for the duration of the dog’s career? *This question is required.
4. Do you understand that all veterinary care must be given on campus? (Except in case of emergency) *This question is required.
5. Are you willing to drive the dog to campus whenever asked and on as little as 24 hours notice (a breeder may require upwards of 25 trips per year)? *This question is required.
6. While the dog is adjusting to your home, do you understand that if the dog is unsupervised (at night or during the day), it should be crated? *This question is required.
7. Are you willing to maintain the dog’s obedience and to attend any events held to further your education? *This question is required.
8. Do you understand that the dog needs to be kept in ideal body condition (healthy weight)?  *This question is required.
9. Are you willing to feed the dog an approved food? (Fromm) *This question is required.
10. Do you understand that when outside, breeders must be on leash unless in a secure fenced area? *This question is required.
11. Are you ready to commit to all of the above for the duration of the dog's breeding career, an average of 3-5 years? *This question is required.
