What is the purpose of the study?
My name is Victoria Whiteford and I am a student at Glasgow Caledonian University. I am conducting this study to fulfil the requirements of my Graduate Diploma in Psychology degree and require Scottish citizens aged 18-25. The purpose of the study is to investigate young Scottish adult’s attitudes and behaviour regarding various different mental disorders.
Do I have to take part?
No. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you decide to take part you will be asked to provide consent. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason. A decision to withdraw at any time, or a decision not to take part, will not affect you in any way. If you decide to withdraw and would not like your information to be included in the final written project then you will be given the option at the end to exclude your data. If you don’t wish to take part in this study just close the web page down.
What will happen to me if I take part?
If you consent to taking part, you will be asked to complete a survey on this website; it should take you about 10-15 minutes. First, you will be asked to read a vignette. Then you will be asked a number of questions relating to this vignette covering personal stigma, perceived stigma, social distance and reported and intended behaviour. You do not need to answer every question and you will be able to complete the survey without answering all questions.
Will the information I provide be kept confidential?
Yes. No one other than myself will have access to any information that could identify you. No names will be required or obtained.
What will happen to the results?
The answers you give in the survey will be added to an overall results file containing all results from this study that will be stored on a locked computer. The results will be written up in my project. It is necessary for me to retain original data for 10 years. After that, all survey answers will be destroyed.
