What is the research about?
This research is about the effect that New Labour had on social mobility. We wish to find out the views of people accessible to the researchers’ respective local areas through filling out a survey, stating their views over question relating to social mobility.
Why have I been chosen?
The selection of participants is random. However, due to limited time and resources, convenience sampling will be used where we pick participants in popular, easy to access areas.
What will happen to me if I take part?
You will be asked to fill out a survey. You have to fill in a consent form beforehand, and you can withdraw at any time without stating a reason. If you appear nervous over answering personal questions such as party voted for, you will be reminded that you can withdraw if you want to. The survey will take only a few minutes. Information will not be released publicly and the research paper with your data used will not feature your name, keeping you anonymous.
Are there any benefits in my taking part?
The benefits will be taking part in an interesting survey, in terms of respondent benefits. The wider benefits will be for the researchers to find out information about people to help answer their research question.
Are there any risks involved?
Not really. All data will be anonymous on the research paper and information will not be released publicly.
Will my participation be confidential?
We will comply with the Data Protection Act, along with the University policy and the information will remain confidential – it will not be released to the public and the information you provide will not have your name linked to it on our research paper. We will ensure that the information does not get released to the public through storing information on a password-protected computer.
What happens if I change my mind?
The participant has the right to withdraw at any time for no reason. Do not feel like you have to participate. You will be reminded of this right if you appear nervous over some personal questions such as income.
