About the Centre for Emotional Health Clinic

The Centre for Emotional Health Clinic (CEHC) is a research and training clinic aimed at furthering our understanding of child & adult emotional disorders and improving our methods of treatment. The Clinic is part of the Centre for Emotional Health, Macquarie University. Families who seek help at the CEHC will receive state of the art assessment and treatment based on internationally recognised research, much of which has been conducted by our team over the past 20 years.

There is an expectation that by seeking services from a research and training clinic that families will be invited to participate in research activities related to developing better assessment and treatment methods, and, better understanding the causes of anxiety and related disorders. Participation in each invited activity is voluntary. 
About the Cool Little Kids Program
The Cool Little Kids Program is a group treatment program for parents of children aged 3-6 years who exhibit excessive shyness or anxiety. Cool Little Kids is a psycho-educational parenting program that equips parents with knowledge, practical skills and tips on how to help their child manage and overcome anxiety. The program uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) techniques to give parents effective tools and strategies to assist their child.

  • Helpful and unhelpful ways of responding to anxiety in children
  • Skills and strategies to help your child build brave behaviours and face fears
  • Dealing with setbacks and difficulties
  • How to maintain progress after the program ends.

Program Leaders
Cool Little Kids programs at the CEHC are run by Registered and Clinical Psychologists and often have a Provisional Psychologist as a co-therapist. All of our psychologists complete specialised training in child and adolescent anxiety and receive supervision from senior clinical psychologists who have expertise in this area.

Our team of psychologists include:
  1. Provisional Psychologists who have completed an undergraduate degree and 1 year of further postgraduate training and supervised practice in clinical psychology. They work under the supervision of a senior clinical psychologist.
  2. Registered Psychologists who have a postgraduate degree in clinical psychology and who are completing further supervised practice to achieve endorsement in the specialisation of clinical psychology.
  3. Clinical Psychologists who have been endorsed in clinical psychology following a minimum of 4 years of postgraduate training and supervised practice.
  4. Senior Clinical Psychologists who have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and other emotional health difficulties. They provide expert supervision and leadership in clinical psychology.
Program Details
  • The program consists of 6 group sessions across a 6-8 week period, held at the same time each week.
  • Each session runs for approximately 2 hours.
  • Groups are arranged according to demand, but typically new groups run every 1-2 months. 
  • Each group is attended by 4-8 families. 
  • Children do not attend groups and childcare is not available on site. Please make alternate arrangements for childcare during sessions.
Program Cost
The total cost of the program is $650 per family (
covering attendance by both parents at the same group if desired). This includes all sessions and program materials. Fees are paid prior to starting a group when securing your place and are not refundable. Medicare rebates are NOT available for the Cool Little Kids Program.


The first step to participating in a Cool Little Kids Program is to complete an online intake which will begin on the next page. A senior clinician will review the information that you provide and evaluate if the Cool Little Kids Program is likely to be of benefit to you and your child. We may contact you to clarify information to help us make this decision.

​After the review our admin team will contact you to offer a place in the next available group that matches your availability or to provide recommendations regarding alternate services if the Cool Little Kids Program is not likely to address your current concerns.
