Grassy Narrows Phone Call Action

Let's flood Premier Wynne with phone calls!

If we can flood Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne's office with phone calls, it just might be enough to finally force her to commit to cleaning up the mercury poisoning from the Grassy Narrows First Nations’ river.

Your call will only take a minute but it will make a huge difference. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Read the instructions and talking points below
  2. Call the Premier’s office at 416-325-1941 and leave your message
  3. Record the results below

Watch Amara make a call and see how easy it is!

Here are the basic instructions:

  • Call the Premier's office and leave a message on the answering machine if you reach the voicemail.
  • If you speak to the office staff, just ask to leave a message for the Premier
  • State your full name
  • If you live in Ontario, make sure to include that in your message (if you don’t live in Ontario you can still make a call -- the premier needs to hear from all of us).
  • Mention that you stand with the Grassy Narrows First Nation in demanding the government commit to cleaning up the mercury poisoning from their river.
  • If you’d like a response, leave your phone number.

If you’d like to include more information in your message, here are some talking points you can use:

  • Ontario has a responsibility to clean up the river system which was dumped with 9,000kgs of mercury under their watch
  • Cleaning the river is safe, it’s possible and it’s necessary. Few communities would have to struggle for forty years to have their waterways cleaned.
  • People are getting sick today. Children are dying today. Everyday the river remains dirty is another day that Indigenous people’s lives are at risk.
  • Grassy Narrows people have lived off the river system for generations - they should not have to continue to pay for Ontario’s mistakes.
