National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy
Summer 2018

Congratulations! Your interest in promoting agriscience within your state and region as a National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador shows your dedication to professional development and growth. Please read the following information to determine if you are willing and able to serve in this position.

Applying to attend the National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy is a commitment to promote agriscience and inquiry based learning to other teachers in your state, region and across the nation. Each summer, specially selected teachers spend a week participating in an interactive, hands-on application based science training program. The training will include agriculture related labs with a high amount of science content using the "inquiry-based" approach to student learning of agriscience.

If selected as a National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador, you will be required to attend a national training session. The session is scheduled to be held the week of July 16-20, 2018. If selected, a majority of expenses for the week will be paid, including airfare or mileage reimbursement to the selected location, meals, and hotel room based on double occupancy (roomed with a fellow Ambassador). In addition, you will be required to prepare and present a workshop in the NAAE Agriscience Institute at the NAAE Convention in San Antonio, Texas, November 27-December 1, 2018 as well as during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN.  Financial support will be provided to attend NAAE Convention, including airfare or mileage reimbursement to the convention, convention registration, and hotel room based on double occupancy (roomed with a fellow Ambassador). Additional expenses including travel to and from airport, sub pay, baggage and overage baggage fees, parking, etc. will not be provided. Each Ambassador will need to provide their own travel and financial support to attend and present at the National FFA Convention.
After providing professional development workshops at National FFA Convention and NAAE conventions, you will be required to provide additional workshops within your state throughout the following years or develop a NAAE Agriscience Inquiry Institute to be held in your state. It is expected that your state supervisors and in-service coordinators will provide the funding to cover expenses for these workshops. You may also be asked by other states to provide additional professional development in agriscience workshops to their teachers' summer conferences or during fall, winter, or spring meetings. These states would be expected to cover expenses you incur during these training opportunities.

If you decide that you can fulfill all the obligations outlined in the above paragraphs and are a current 2017-2018 member of NAAE, please visit with your local school administration and state supervisor of Agricultural Education about your interest in the program. BY COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING THIS APPLICATION, YOU ARE VERIFYING YOU HAVE RECEIVED PERMISSION AND SUPPORT FROM YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION AS WELL AS PROVIDE FUNDING SUPPORT.

If you have questions, contact Alissa Smith at (800) 509-0204 or by email at asmith.naae@uky.edu. All applications must be submitted electronically by April 15, 2018.

The National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy is sponsored by the DowDuPont as a special project of the National FFA Foundation and managed by the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).
