Welcome to the Minnesota Power Foundation Scholarship Application System

NEW GENERATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM INSTRUCTIONS

The Minnesota Power Foundation will award scholarships to students who will be in the last half of their college degree in the fall of 2017 and who are pursuing a degree in a qualifying field of study. Scholarship amounts are:

$2,000 for junior or senior students applying for a Bachelor's degree
or
$1,000 for students pursuing an Associate's degree.

Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicants' demonstrated and articulated commitment to completing degrees at qualifying institutions in fields of study that match regional workforce needs.

In addition to a completed application form, you will need to submit an official copy of your school transcript and letters of recommendation from at least two for the following: instructor, academic advisor or employer. Submission of a photo is optional but encouraged.

Applications and all supporting documentation must be submitted no later than midnight February 1, 2017.

Once you complete your application you will reach a "Review" page which you can print. Please do so to retain a copy for your records.

1. Are you a high school student? *This question is required.
As a high school student, you do not qualify for this scholarship. Click here for the Community Involvement Scholarship application. It is the Minnesota Power scholarship for high school students.
Are you pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's degree? *This question is required.

Application Eligibility

Student must be a full-time student entering his or her junior or senior year and studying for a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Math
  • Business
  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Economics
  • Education - Math & Science

Students must be attending one of the following educational institutions:

  • Bemidji State University
  • Bismarck State College
  • College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, MN
  • Iron Range Engineering
  • University of Mary, Bismarck, ND
  • University of Minnesota Duluth
  • University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND
  • University of Wisconsin-Superior

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Awards

Scholarship awards will be $2,000. Awards will be announced in April. The award is co-payable to the institution and the recipient. Scholarships are not renewable.

Determination of Awards

Awards will be determined based on the applicants' demonstrated and articulated commitment to completing degrees at qualifying institutions in fields of study that match regional workforce needs.

Scholarship awards will be determined by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation Scholarship Committee. Members of the selection committee are totally independent and separate from ALLETE/Minnesota Power, Minnesota Power Foundation, and ALLETE, and no employee or former employee of those organizations will select recipients of the Minnesota Power New Generation Scholarship.

Student must be in his or her first year of a two year accredited college studying for an Associate's Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Business
  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Economics
  • Lineman
  • Education - Math & Science
  • Energy Production/Management
  • Industrial Technology/Controls
  • Electrical Maintenance/Power Generation
  • Process Automation/Engineering

Students must be attending one of the following qualifying institutions:

  • Bismarck State College
  • Central Lakes College
  • Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College
  • Hibbing Community College
  • Itasca Community College
  • Lake Region State College, Devils Lake, ND
  • Lake Superior College
  • Mesabi Range Community and Technical College
  • Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Wadena
  • Rainy River Community College
  • Vermilion Community College
  • Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, Superior

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
