2019 Learn By Doing Lab Registration (5th-8th)

Registration Information

Welcome to Cal Poly's Learn By Doing Lab 2018-2019 registration portal! Please be sure to read all of the important information below before starting the application.

LBDL spots for 2019 will be filled using a lottery system. This means that slots are not filled on a "first come, first served" basis. The application portal will remain open until September 14, 2018 at 5:00pm for all interested parties to apply.

As this is a lottery system, register for as many dates as you can attend!  The key is to ONLY register for the days you CAN attend, you will only be offered one date and is NOT flexible.  If you turn down your date it goes to a school on the waiting list.

After registration closes, it may take several weeks for scheduling. We are aiming to complete scheduling and notify schools around mid-October, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Before you register:
  1. Please coordinate with other teachers at your school. We suggest mentioning your intent to register for the Learn By Doing Lab at an all staff/faculty meeting!
  2. We insist that schools select ONE grade level (5th-8th) to attend the LBDL, and to continue to register that group each year. The labs do not necessarily change from year to year. So, if your 5th graders came last year, they could experience the same labs as (if they return as) 6th graders. Exceptions can be made for small schools with multi-grade classrooms. Please contact Learn By Doing if you have any questions.
  3. Please have your academic calendar handy. You will need to reference it during registration.
  4. Think about your transportation options. If you are traveling by bus, please find out the student capacity.  Bus issues are the main reason for schools cancelling, please contact transportation and your school district before completing this application to guarantee you will have funding for transportation needs.
Helpful Hints:
  1. The daily maximum capacity of the lab is 100 students. If you are registering more than 100 students, your group will be split over multiple days.  There are two labs offered each day be prepared as it may be necessary to have your classrooms seperate.
  2. Registering more than once will not increase your odds of being selected, and duplicate applications will be discarded. If you need to save & return, please use the “save” option at the top. If you need to make edits to your registration after the portal closes, please contact us.
  3. The more flexible your schedule, the more likely it is that we can fit you in!
