Quality Start Los Angeles Stipend Program
2017-2018 GUIDELINES


Applications will be accepted through September 17, 2017 or until the program has reached capacity.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to apply you must meet ALL of the following criteria: 

  • Work for pay in a licensed Child Care Facility (Center or Family Child Care Home), or public school-based facility that is in contract with Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA)
  • Work at a site that does not have a California State Preschool Program (CSPP) contract*
  • Work at least 15 hours a week directly teaching or caring for children ages birth through five
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Be planning to complete a minimum of 3 units of coursework towards a Child Development permit or ECE degree or related field (July 1, 2017– June 30, 2018)

*Centers  with CSPP or FCCs with at least 51% CDE subsidized children  may be eligible for Los Angeles County Office of Child Care, Investing in Early Educators Stipend Program.  Please call (213) 974-4674 or visit http://ceo.lacounty.gov/ccp/iieesp_prepare.htm for more information.  


PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS

To receive a stipend award you must meet ALL of the following requirements during the program year (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018).

Employment

Maintain employment at least 15 hours a week directly teaching or caring for children ages birth through 5 in a Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA) site that does not have a California State Preschool Program (CSPP) contract or CDE EESD contract

Advisement

Meet with the Professional Development Specialist (PDS) a minimum of 2 times

  • Visits will commence upon enrollment and continue through June 16, 2018
  • Exact dates to be determined between you and your assigned Professional Development Specialist  

Coursework

Complete a minimum of 3 units of eligible coursework (or 54 hours of ESL/GED)

  • Coursework Categories:
  • Degree: Child Development, Early Childhood Education (ECE), Human Development, Liberal Studies/Arts, Child & Family Studies, Early Special Education
  • General Education: If required to complete degree requirements (degree in CD/ECE or related field)
  • English as a Second Language or GED
  • Remedial Math or English: If required to complete degree requirements (degree in CD/ECE or related field)
  • Alternative degrees or coursework must be approved by your Professional Development Specialist.   
  • Coursework must be:
  • Completed between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 (Summer 2017, Fall 2017, Winter 2018, and Spring 2018)
  • Completed with a "C" or better
  • Completed at a CTC approved regionally accredited community college or university  

Verification
Submit verification documentation by June 16, 2018

  • Forms will be available March 2018

STIPEND AWARD

Exact stipend amount will be determined based on the final number of participants who successfully complete all program requirements in the given year. 

  • $1,000 minimum


BONUS AWARD

Maximum of ONE bonus per eligible participant. Bonus must be achieved between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018.  

  • Amounts to be determined depending on the availability of funds
  • Bonus amounts will be determined at the end of the program year.
