Free Entrance Exam Preparation Essay Contest

The Cal Poly Pre-Health Advising Office is holding an essay contest to give away entrance exam preparation materials from Kaplan for the MCAT, DAT, GRE, OAT, PCAT, or General GRE and Altius Test Prep for the MCAT.

These certificates are intended for someone planning to take their entrance exam in 2021 and to apply to their professional program in 2021 or 2022. Typically this will be students in their 3rd year of college or above. It is our hope that these companies will continue to offer these free resources in future years, so you may have the opportunity to apply in the future if you are a 1st or 2nd year student.

To apply for these certificates, please complete this application, which includes:
  • 750 word (max) essay answering the question: "Why are you interested in the health career of your choice, what motivates you to stay invested in the career path, and what qualities will you bring to the profession?" For assistance with reviewing your essay, please contact the writing center.
By submitting your application, you authorize permission of the selection committee to confirm your financial need with the Cal Poly Financial Aid office based on your submission of the FAFSA or CA Dream Application and receipt of financial aid as determined by the needs analysis calculation. Demonstration of financial need is not a requirement for applicants, however demonstration of need is a factor considered in the selection process.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
  • Quality of essay
  • Financial need
  • Academic record
Decisions will be made and applicants will be notified by July 31, 2021.

If you have further questions about the essay contest, please contact Meghan Farrier-Nolan at mfarrier@calpoly.edu.

Application Deadline: Sunday, July 4, 2021 at 11:59 pm
