Healthy Aging in Parks Contest- How Do You Promote Healthy Aging in Parks?

Success Story Contest: How Do You Promote Healthy Aging in Parks?

As you work to improve health and wellness in your community, NRPA wants to hear from you! Let us know how you or other park and recreation professionals at your agency engage older adults (adults 50 plus) in activities that improve their health, social connections and quality of life. Through August 2020, submit up to three, 500-word stories by the 26th of the month showcasing how staff work with older adults through various programs and services such as:

  • Physical activity programs/chronic disease prevention and management
  • Nutrition/meal programs (for example, congregate and home delivered meals, SNAP)
  • Mental and behavioral health
  • Special events (for example, older adult health fairs, field trips or other events)
  • Intergenerational programs (for example, mentoring and volunteering)
  • Older adult play spaces
  • Transportation
Make sure to include high resolution images with your submissions! We also want to see photos of you or your colleagues working alongside older adults participating in your programs.

Each month, two winners will be:
  • Awarded a $50 Visa gift card to support their healthy aging program
  • Featured on social media, on the NRPA Healthy Aging in Parks webpage and in the NRPA success story database

Your story also could be featured in a blog or Parks & Recreation magazine article.

  • A story can feature single or multiple participants, and must be accompanied by one or more photos (minimum of 300 dpi, if possible)
