Placements & Salaries Survey for 2017 MLIS Graduates

Welcome to Library Journal's annual Placements and Salary Survey of 2017 LIS Graduates! Completing the survey should take about 15 minutes of your time.

Just a couple reminders before you begin:
  • This survey is completely voluntary. While it would be useful if you would answer all the questions in the survey, you are free to skip any questions you are uncomfortable answering. Library Journal will aggregate anything you decide to answer into the final results.
  • This survey is confidential and anonymous. Your survey responses will not be linked to you in any way. Library Journal will only report results in aggregate for each school. The raw data may be shared with your MLIS institution without any personal identifying information.
  • Library Journal will only publish information by school if we receive responses from ten percent or more of a school’s 2017 graduates.
Please note the deadline for survey participation is June 30, 2018.

The purpose of the survey is to gather statistics about librarians and information specialists just entering the profession, allowing us to see trends in employment and recruitment, as well as identify strengths and weaknesses in the job market. The data provides salary benchmarking which may benefit recent graduates in salary negotiations. It also better enables schools of library and information science to be advocates for their graduating students.

Thank you again for your interest in completing the survey. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this survey, please feel free to contact our research manager, Laura Girmscheid, at
