Teach Plus Colorado Survey

Informing Legislators About Suspension and Expulsion Alternatives

In 2017, House Bill 1210 (HB17-1210) was introduced in the Colorado legislative session but did not pass. HB17-1210 proposed statewide regulation on expulsion and out-of school suspension for pre-kindergarten students through second grade. The bill encouraged the use of alternative approaches to suspension and expulsion within the classroom. A new version of the bill is currently being discussed at the Capitol and we need your feedback as soon as possible so we can ensure legislators hear from elementary educators.

We are a group of teachers from across Colorado who are members of the Teach Plus Colorado State Policy Fellowship and we are seeking more information about current discipline practices across Colorado. How widespread is the use of these alternative approaches? Are teachers aware of these alternatives? Additionally, how prepared and supported do teachers feel in the implementation of these approaches? Above all, our priority is to help inform lawmakers of the possible implications this type of legislation may have in classrooms across Colorado.

We value both your time and your voice. This survey should take no longer than five minutes to complete and your responses will remain anonymous. In addition, Colorado teachers who complete this survey will be entered into a drawing to win one of four $25 Amazon gift cards. For questions about this survey, please email
