2018 NK360° Summer Teacher Institute Application

Thank you for your interest in applying for the National Museum of the American Indian’s NK360° Summer Teacher Institute. Applicants should be aware that the Institute is located in Washington, DC, and if selected they will be required to stay in Washington, DC, from July 8 (p.m.) to July 12 (4 p.m.).

Applications must be submitted online by 5:00 pm EST, Monday, April 30, 2018. 
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by Friday, May 18, 2018.
Please provide an email address to which you have regular access. Once you have successfully submitted your application, you will receive an email from with a copy of your application attached (please add to your address book to avoid this email going into your spam folders and delaying your receipt). 

Things to know before starting the application:
  • You will need to provide contact information for yourself and your school and answer questions about your position and grades/subjects with which you work. In addition, you will need to respond to three (3) statements and upload three (3) documents.
  • You will have the option of stopping and providing an email address so that the link to your partially completed application can be sent to you. This will allow you to return to the form and complete your application at a later time.
  • We strongly recommend that you prepare your responses to the following items in advance so that you can easily copy/paste them directly into the application:   
  1. Use specific examples to describe how you would implement inquiry-based instruction in the classroom. (100-300 words)
  2. Explain how you select historical narratives and source materials and how you design questions to have students analyze sources. (100-300 words)  
  3. Describe what, if any, experience you have working with Native or indigenous communities and/or teaching about American Indians and why you are interested in the Summer Teacher Institute at the National Museum of the American Indian. (100-300 words)
  • Please be prepared to upload the following three (3) documents:
    • Curriculum vitae or resume with at least one professional reference (Be sure to include all certifications and any experience teaching about American Indians.)
    • One letter of recommendation from a supervisor
    • An outline of your academic year (scope and sequence, pedagogical framework, long-term plan, etc.)
