Sports Participation Sponsorship Grant Application

Important Information

Introduction
Yarra's Sports Participation Sponsorship Grants financially support local residents and teams to compete at international, national and development levels, with the goal of developing athletes to their full potential in their chosen sport. Grants provide financial assistance for costs associated with  sport participation such as travel and training costs, and aim to encourage greater participation in sport. 

Guidelines & Definitions
  • A Sporting Event must have a set of rules and a code of conduct, be competitive in nature and must be officially recognised by the code of sport’s Federal or State Body
  • International Level of Competition: e.g. Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, Paralympics Games and World Championship Events. A maximum of $500 for applicants 
  • National Level of Competition: Representing Australia. e.g. National Championships. A maximum of $500 for applicants 
  • State/ Development Level: Representing Victoria. Eg State Championships, Development squads. A maximum of $500 for applicants 
  • Team Sponsorship: Teams can compete at any of the above levels of competition At least 75% of the team's members must be residents of Yarra. A maximum of $1000 for teams 

Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must reside in Yarra; one of the following verifications of proof of residency must be attached to your application eg. Licence showing current residential address; Utilities bill (e.g. gas, electricity, home phone); Pension or Health Care Card; Rates notice/ copy of lease.
  • Applicants must be endorsed by the relevant accredited State, National or International governing sporting association. A letter of support verifying the selection in writing must be provided with all applications, except those at Development level where the letter can come from a local club.
  • Applicants must lodge their application prior to the event taking place. We will NOT fund retrospective events. 
  • At least 75% of team members for a Team Sponsorship Application must reside in Yarra; and must demonstrate this by submitting proof of residency verification.
  • Applicants can only apply for one tier of competition per application.
  • Applicants can only receive a maximum of (2) two grants per financial year. Applications will be accepted in each quarter provided this limit has not been met. Past grant success must be disclosed in the application process.
  • Applicants MUST agree to supply evidence as requested by Council within 28 days following the event/ competition. Evidence can be provided in the form of photos, media articles, printed results, receipts or a letter from a relevant Governing Body.

What will NOT be funded
  • University Games
  • School based tours where participant selection is not based on merit
  • NB. School Sports will only be funded where the individual can demonstrate that they have been involved in open and fair selection trials and are selected for a State Representative Team from a peak School Sport Organisation. A letter of support from both the school principal and the peak School Sport Organisation must be provided with the application

Application Dates and Procedure
Applications for the 2018/2019 Sports Participation Sponsorship Grants will open on 1 July 2018 and will remain open until 31 May 2019 or until the available funding is exhausted. Applicants should submit their application prior to their anticipated participation date/s. Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received funding from Council. Applicants are eligible to receive one (1) sponsorship grant per financial year. Applicants will be notified within 28 days, the outcome of their application.


Conditions of the Grant
Council reserves the right to determine the selection and grant funding process. The guidelines and application process will be reviewed every 12 months. Organisational responsibility for review of these guidelines is the Recreation Unit at City of Yarra. Council will determine the terms of payment of grants. If for some reason, the successful applicant does not attend the event for which the grant has been given, the money must be returned to City of Yarra in full. Grants not fully expended also must be returned.
