NHS EDI Electronic Medical Documentation

NHS EDI Electronic Medical Documentation Questionnaire

Noridian Healthcare Solutions (NHS) continually searches for opportunities to improve document exchange to benefit claims processing and supporting activities.  NHS would like you to take a few minutes to complete our survey regarding the future of Medical Documentation Exchange.  This questionnaire focuses on your current practices as well as the various submission types NHS is working to develop.
As we continue to work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to enhance the exchange of electronic data, we also want to develop and create additional methods that allow you to submit documentation in an electronic format. Your input is very valuable. There are currently several document submission types in the marketplace:
  • EDI (275 x12 Claims Attachments)
  • esMD
  • HISP (Direct Protocol)
  • Portal Submission
  • Vendor Specific Workflow Management Tools
Please see reference table below for detailed definitions of each submission type
  • EDI (275 x12 Claims Attachments) – HIPAA standard x12 transaction that would allow for submission of medical documentation through your existing EDI process.
  • esMD – Medicare’s esMD system provides an alternative mechanism for submitting medical documentation, PMD PA requests, and PMD result code responses to review contractors. (more info)
  • HISP (Direct Protocol) – The Direct Project develops specifications for a secure, scalable, standards-based way to establish universal health addressing and transport for participants (including providers, laboratories, hospitals, pharmacies and patients) to send encrypted health information directly to cryptographically validated recipients over the Internet. Direct messages are transmitted securely through a Health Information Service Provider (HISP)
  • Portal Submission – the ability to upload medical documentation through the Noridian Medicare Portal (NMP).
  • Vendor Specific Workflow Management Tools – several providers and suppliers have internal claims and document workflow systems (Such as; OnBase) that may allow for customized tools from your vendor allowing submission.
