FutureBees NZ - building honeybee breeding objectives

Initial respondents' branching question

This page directs respondents to one of the appropriate list of questions for breeders, commercial producers and hobbyists.
The team of FutureBees NZ is interested in your opinion on the importance of honeybee traits to the beekeeping industry and your own beekeeping efforts.
While the team behind FutureBees is made up of experts on honeybee genetics, animal breeding and breeding programme design, we do not have the day-to-day insight and width of perspectives that working in the industry in different areas of the countries brings with it.

This is why we are asking for your help to allow us to understand which honeybee characteristics are important to New Zealand beekeepers.

The survey consists of two parts, a demographics part and a breeding goal preferences part.
All of the information is anonymous, and while some of the questions in the demographics part are not mandatory, we urge you to fill out as much as you can. This will help us understand if there are groups with different priorities (e.g. producers of high activity Manuka honey compared to bush honey producers).

The first, demographics part of the survey should take about 13-15 minutes.
When responding the survey questions "back" and "next" buttons will appear on your page, please use those and avoid using the "enter" key on your keyboard. The second breeding goal preferences part of the survey will open up once you click "Submit" at the end of this first part. This second part is a flexible survey that reacts to the way you answer questions. It can be very variable in time, it may take as little as 5 minutes or as long as 20.

The very first question will direct you to the appropriate survey (e.g. hobbyist beekeeper, commercial operator), if you fit more than one category you are welcome to fill in the survey more than once so that we can better capture your views.

Your opinion is extremely valuable to us, and without it, we will be unable to work towards a bee breeding scheme that benefits you and your bees!
1. How would classify yourself? (remember, you are welcome to fill out the survey several times (e.g. if you work as a beekeeper, but also keep hives for yourself) *This question is required.
