Instructor OL Training Waiver Page

Online Teaching Certification Waiver Form  (Please read all directions below)

If you are a faculty member that has been assigned or would like to be assigned a Distance Learning (Hybrid or Fully Online) Course at LBCC then you are required to have completed our online teaching certification by completing the LBCC Teach Online Seminar 3.0 (TOS 3.0). 

However, if you have completed online teaching training at another institution you may submit this Waiver Form and provide us (OLET) with records of your certification. We will then review your waiver for approval.

NOTE: official certification needs to be submitted for approval and the online teaching certification at another institution should have equivalent content and learning outcomes as the LBCC Teach Online Seminar 3.0. 

We also encourage you to build your online courses with elements from the LBCC Exemplary Course Rubric or the Online Education Initiative (OEI) Rubric.

Please follow the steps below for waiver consideration and review.
 
  • STEP 1: Complete and submit this online waiver form, providing all necessary documentation. (This form will be received by OLET)
    • Please note: you will need to upload copies of official certifications you have completed.  This is required for approval.
    • Also note there is a difference between Online Teaching Pedagogy and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) training.
       
  • STEP 2: Inform your Department Head that you have submitted the online waiver form.
     
  • STEP 3: The OLET Online Learning Department will review you waiver submission.
    • Please note: if copies of official certifications are not submitted, OLET will not approve your waiver.
    • If approved, your name will be added to our certified faculty spreadsheet which your Department Head has access to.
       
  • STEP 4: After the OLET Online Learning Department review and approval, OLET will notify you and your Department Head of the approval.

1. REQUIRED: Online Teaching Pedagogy Certification – Please attached your official online teaching certification below.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Online Teaching Certification is focused on pedagogical approaches to Distance Learning and is not the same as Canvas LMS training.
  • Required: Please upload copies of official Online Teaching Pedagogy certification(s) you have completed. Your waiver will not be accepted without this document.
Online teaching pedagogy training should address aspects such as:

(1) instructor presence and regular effective contact between instructor and student, and among students, either synchronously or asynchronously,
(2) varied and current instructional materials and tools,
(3) alignment of student learning outcomes with assessments,
(4) accessibility (Section 508) and (5) copyright laws.

REQUIRED: Please upload a copy of your official Online Teaching Pedagogy certification(s) you have completed.   
Note: Your waiver will not be accepted without this document.
 
  • Optional: In addition to the official certification, you may also upload supporting documents about your Online Teaching Pedagogy certification such as certificate course objectives.

2. RECOMMENDED (Not Required): Canvas LMS Training for Online Teaching

Initially Canvas LMS training was required, however we have removed this requirement, yet still strongly encourage and recommend you are trained on canvas LMS to best utilize our LMS for your students success.


Please enumerate the training courses you have successfully completed that have led to certification in the use of our current learning management system (Canvas).  Please provide a description of our extensive experience with the learning management systems.
