2019 Giants BAASST Application

The Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team

The Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team was formed in 1996 and is a partnership established by the Golden State Warriors, Oakland A’s, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, San Jose Earthquakes and San Jose Sharks. Each participating sports team has contributed to the scholarship program in a collective effort to assist Bay Area high school students achieve goals of higher education. This unique committee is the first of its kind in the realm of professional sports.

The Bay Area All-Star Scholarships will be awarded to seven successful students residing within the Bay Area’s nine counties. All public and charter high schools within these counties are encouraged to nominate students for this prestigious scholarship. Each scholar will receive an award in the amount of $5,000 and will be recognized at team ceremonies.
Eligibility

Student applicants must meet the following criteria for nomination:
• Be a college-bound senior currently attending a Bay Area public or charter high school (Please note, the Giants' territory includes high schools in the city of San Francisco. If you attend a school outside of San Francisco, please contact Bailey at brodriguez@sfgiants.com to see which application you should use.)
• Display leadership qualities in the classroom or in extracurricular activities
• Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 from sophomore to senior year of high school
• Demonstrate the value of education, good work ethic and community outreach

There will be no discrimination regardless of race, color, religion, political beliefs, abilities/disabilities, health, socio-economic status, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law when choosing a successful scholarship recipient. 

Immediate family members, relatives and front office employees in association with the selection committee and the sponsoring sports teams are not eligible for consideration of a scholarship.

School officials should submit letters of recommendation to students for inclusion in online applications (preferred).

If this is not possible, please send letters of recommendation to Bailey Rodriguez at brodriguez@sfgiants.com no later than February 10, 2019.
Application Instructions

Each student must submit the following information by February 10, 2019 to complete this application:

• BAASST Application (this application)
  • Includes the following essay question: Taking into consideration academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community involvement, please write an essay of no more than 1,500 words explaining why you believe you are a deserving BAASST candidate. (It is recommended that you write your essay in a word processing program beforehand and paste it when it is complete.)
• Two letters of recommendation from non-relatives. At least one letter must come from a representative from your high school (teacher, administrator, counselor, coach, etc.). Upload them to this application (preferred) or email to Bailey Rodriguez at brodriguez@sfgiants.com

• Official transcripts from each high school attended. Please upload to this application (preferred) or email to brodriguez@sfgiants.com
