City Park Tomorrow Design Workshop Application

Project Summary
Plans to make improvements within City Park began in earnest in 2015 when voters approved a ballot initiative to, “… bring back the City Park train in a new, expanded location in City Park.” In addition, funding for park improvements was provided in a capital tax ballot measure approved in 2005.  In order to find a home in City Park for the new train, master planning efforts for City Park began. Conceptual ideas were shared online and at several meetings in 2016, and then refined and shared again in 2018. At that time, City Council provided direction to pursue a community engaged design workshop.

Next Steps
The next step for the City Park Tomorrow project will include a community-engaged design workshop, led by a third-party independent facilitator. During the workshop, volunteers will learn about and discuss the history of City Park, park character, project goals, master plan requirements, technical considerations for improvements to the park, and evaluate potential locations for the new City Park train.

If you visit City Park and are interested in participating in this two-day workshop, please complete this online application. A maximum of 32 individuals will be selected to participate.  Volunteers will be appointed by the City Manager. Volunteer selection will include a diversity of age, recreational interests, uses of City Park, as well as representation of community-wide neighborhoods. Priority will be given to those who can attend both full days of the design workshop. Phone interviews may be utilized in the selection process.

We recognize that being a participant will require a significant commitment on your part and we thank you in advance for your time and consideration of this important volunteer opportunity.  Your opinions will help shape the vision for City Park.
