LifeSteps RCT Screener

consent

Due to coronavirus (COVID-19), Life Steps study visits will be conducted online temporarily.
Thank you for your interest in the Life Steps for PrEP for Youth research study. Life Steps for PrEP is an intervention to help individuals regularly take PrEP, a once daily pill that can help prevent HIV.

This is a two-part study and we are currently recruiting for the second phase. During this phase, we are looking for young men who have recently started taking PrEP to try our intervention (or counseling sessions) that we have developed to help with taking the PrEP medication as it is prescribed. This study includes three visits which take about 1.5 hours each to complete for which participants can receive up to $300.00 total for their time.

This research study is being funded by the Adolescent Trials Network.

The screener will ask you a few confidential questions which will determine if you meet the basic eligibility criteria for this study. This will take approximately 5 minutes. If you meet basic eligibility and decide to continue, a study staff member will contact you to set up a study visit. Just because you come in for a study visit doesn’t mean you will be eligible for the study or that you have to join. The screener asks questions about sensitive topics, like age, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and the types of sex you are having. Some of these questions are of personal nature and you may feel uncomfortable or embarrassed answering them - you can skip questions and decide to stop answering questions, at any time. If you don’t answer all the questions the screener may not
be able to find out if you meet basic eligibility for the study and therefore, might not be able to schedule a study visit. If you meet the basic eligibility for this study and are interested in participating, the screener will ask you for your contact information to schedule a visit for you to meet with study staff.

Before we can move forward, we need to ensure that you meet a few eligibility requirements. The screening process is optional, and you may choose at any time not to participate. If you choose to proceed, we will ask you a few questions today, and your answers will determine whether or not you are eligible to participate in a larger research study. Just so you know, any personal or any information shared in this survey is strictly confidential and will only be used for research study purposes. All the information that is gathered from you today is safely stored. The information will be kept in a secure location accessed only by study staff. We may use the information we collect for research activities related to this study or to look at recruitment trend.

The possible risks of screening for the study include the risk of breach of confidentiality. Data is encrypted on this survey website to minimize this risk.  When study staff receive your information, it will be kept on a secure server. You may not benefit personally from being in this research study.
