2019/2020 Overture Galleries Application

Introduction

Thanks for your interest in exhibiting at Overture Galleries in the 2019/20 Season!

APPLICATIONS DUE MON, MARCH 18, 2019 at 11:59PM
The exhibitions selected for the 2019/20 gallery season will be announced in early May.

You must complete all required fields in order to submit the application, but you can save your progress and return later if needed by using the "Save and Continue Later" button in grey at the very top of the application. 

INFORMATIONAL MEETING
An informational meeting about the Overture Galleries application process will be held on
Wednesday, Feb 6 from 6–7 PM in the Wisconsin Studio located on the third floor of Overture Center for the Arts. 


CURATORIAL WORKSHOP
A Curatorial Workshop will be held on Thursday, Feb 7, 6-7:30 PM in the Wisconsin Studio located on the third floor of Overture Center for the Arts. Learn about curating a successful exhibition at Overture, with application process and requirements, and how Overture supports curated exhibitions.

OVERTURE CENTER MISSION
The Overture Galleries serve as a premier venue for exhibiting professional and community art. The Galleries further Overture Center’s mission in advocating for the development of the arts in the community and in providing a world-class forum for diverse artistic expression. 

OVERTURE GALLERIES
Overture Galleries I, II and III serve as entryways to the Capitol Theater. Gallery I is located on the first floor, Gallery II on the second floor and Gallery III on the third floor. Four exhibition cycles will be selected for each of the three galleries for the annual season. Each exhibit cycle lasts approximately three months. Applicants are encouraged to view the spaces prior to submitting an application. 

SELECTION PROCESS and EXHIBITOR CRITERIA
All applications are reviewed by a selection committee of local artists and arts professionals, and selections are made based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic quality and presentation
  • Geographic, ethnic, gender and age diversity
  • Variations of artistic expression and media
  • Representations of both professional and community-based artists
PLEASE NOTE
  • Individual applicants who are accepted will be curated into a two person or group exhibition.
  • Group Applicants and curatorial proposals must include artwork by a minimum of two artists, the majority of whom must reside in Dane County. Group and curated shows must have a strong conceptual and/or visual theme.
  • Preference is given to artists who have not shown work in the Overture Galleries in the past three years. Artists who have recently exhibited in a large group show at Overture Galleries may re-apply as an individual or as a member of another group.
