Register here for the free 2021 Census Education Programme, Let's Count!

In October 2019, Carlisle, Ceredigion, Hackney and Tower Hamlets are four areas participating in the rehearsal for the nationwide Census taking place in March 2021.

Primary schools in these areas can take part this year in the 2021 Census Primary School Education Resources Programme, Let's Count!

The Census is very important because it allows central and local government to plan for the country’s vital services such as schools, housing and healthcare. By spreading the word about the Census, the children in your school can play an important role in ensuring the Census builds an accurate picture of your local area and of the UK today. Importantly, the children will help shape their own futures.

Free Census Primary School Education Resources Programme
To support the Census, the Office for National Statistics (ONS), in partnership with education resource centre iChild, has developed an exciting free education programme to help teach children about this important national event. It can be used across the whole school and is cross-curricular. The resources cover the following subjects to support children’s learning across EYFS, KS1, KS2 as well as specific resources for year 6 in England, and the Foundation Phase and KS2 in Wales.
  • Maths, English, History, Geography, PSHE, Art & Design, Computing and Citizenship
Free resource packs include: -
  • Access to the Let’s Count! website including past Census data for your local area and graph creation software. This will allow you to create personalised charts tailored to your school and community.
  • A choice of 12 lesson plans covering the curriculum areas above. The lesson plans will help educate children on the importance of the Census and how the information collected will help your school and local area. Teachers can choose to use one or more of the lesson plans depending on lesson time available. You will receive a booklet and access to online resources.
  • Each lesson plan is supported with editable Power Point slides, enabling you to tailor lessons to your local area and to your class.
  • An assembly presentation (editable Power Point slides).
  • Home learning project and take-home material for the children and parents.
  • Classroom display material and posters.
  • Stickers and certificates
  • Counter Cat characters will help make the learning fun!
Register below and if you are a primary school in one of the four areas mentioned above, you will receive your free education resource pack in a few days, giving you plenty of time to incorporate the programme into your timetable before October. Packs are limited to a maximum of 3 per school and will be sent to the first 3 teachers applying. If you are the first to apply from your school, please encourage other class teachers to sign up.
