2020 Military Sports Camp Application

 
Welcome to the 2020 Military Sports Camp Skills Academy Application!


The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and the Wounded Heroes Foundation (WHF) will host the 13th Annual Military Sports Camp Skills Academy in Chicago, IL on July 23 - July 27, 2020. We welcome your application and appreciate your interest in participating.
 
About the Skills Academy
For this year's Military Sports Camp, we are featuring a Skills Academy, that will consist of two intermediate-level single sport clinics and competitions. Participants will focus on a single sport - either Sled Hockey or Wheelchair Softball - for a sport intensive clinic that will provide elite level instruction and hands-on skills building leading to a competition. A bonus SCUBA Experience clinic will be offered for all participants.

In addition to sport instruction, sessions will be provided on: Nutrition, Joint Health and Injury Prevention, Equipment Maintenance, Team Development and more. 

The Military Sports Camp Skills Academy is for men and women who have served or are currently serving in the US Armed Forces and have a physical disability of any kind such as spinal cord injuries, amputations, stroke, MS, ALS, TBI with mobility impairment, and other orthopedic impairments.

This program is best suited for people with intermediate sports skill level. Applicants must be able to push/propel a manual wheelchair or ice sled independently.

Application Process 
Please read this before completing your application.
 
The online application will be open from February 5, 2020 - April 15, 2020. This application will take roughly 15 minutes. You will be able to save your work at the end of a page and return to complete it at a later date. Please only apply if you are available July 23 - 27, 2020.
 
Please note the following:
  • Applications are accepted from those who have served or are currently serving in the US Armed Forces. The time-frame in which you served, the location, or cause of your injury will not preclude your application from being considered.
  • Applying to the Military Sports Camp does not guarantee acceptance.
  • Accepted participants must be medically cleared in order to participate and attend camp. Medical forms will be sent out prior to camp and must be completed and returned prior to arriving in Chicago.
Only completed applications will be reviewed by the application committee and the applicant will be notified of his or her acceptance status on or before May 4, 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: Accepted participants are asked to secure his/her place with a small $75 deposit refundable only upon successful completion of the Camp.
