Spring 2019 Cultural Commencement Sign-Up

Thank you for your interest in participating in this year's Cultural Commencement ceremonies!  Please read the descriptions below and fill out the survey to indicate your interest in participating.  Interested students will be contacted by the organizers of the Commencement ceremonies and provided with more information about date, time, and location. 

American Indian & Indigenous | Friday, June 7 | 4-7 p.m. | SLO Botanical Gardens
The American Indian and Indigenous Commencement celebrates the achievements of graduating American Indian and Indigenous students.

Asian Pacific Islander | Friday, June 14 | 5-8 p.m. | Chumash Auditorium
Asian Pacific Islander (API) Commencement is an annual graduation ceremony held to recognize the personal and academic achievements of graduating seniors at Cal Poly. This event provides a more intimate atmosphere for family and friends to congratulate the graduating class of 2019.

Black | Friday, June 14 | 4-8 p.m. | Spanos Theater
Black Commencement is an annual celebration recognizing the culture and accomplishments of the Cal Poly African American graduating class. This commencement is also a time when students are able to thank their families and friends for their support along the way. Distinguished speakers, special student awards, live performances, and the tradition of wearing Kente cloth stoles hand-woven from Africa, all add to the vibrancy.

Chicanx/Latinx | Sunday, June 16 | 11-2 p.m. | Performing Arts Center (Sign-Ups Have Closed)
The 41th annual Chicanx/Latinx Commencement celebrates the culture and accomplishments of Cal Poly Latinx students. This bilingual ceremony, organized by the Chicanx/Latinx Commencement Committee, is open to all students, parents, family, and friends. The event consists of food, entertainment, guest speakers, remarks by graduating students and recognizes those who have supported Latinx students throughout their Cal Poly journey.
Sign-ups have closed for Chicanx/Latinx Commencement.


Disability | Friday, June 7 | 5:30-8 p.m. | PAC Pavilion
Disability Resource Center (DRC) commencement recognizes the accomplishments, persistence and strength of our graduating students. We celebrate their success with a ceremony and reception that acknowledges their achievements and allows the opportunity for students to thank their supporters.

Lavender | Saturday, June 8 | 4-7 p.m. | SLO Botanical Gardens
Lavender Commencement recognizes the scholarship, accomplishments, and community contributions of underrepresented sexual and gender minorities including, but not limited to, gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual/aromantic, queer, transgender, genderqueer, gender fluid, gender non-conforming, non-binary, agender, intersex, questioning, and allied graduating seniors and graduate students. 

SWANA | Friday, June 14 | 6:30-8:30 p.m. | Baker Lawn
SWANA Commencement is an annual celebration recognizing the culture and accomplishments of the Cal Poly SWANA graduating class. This commencement is also a time when students are able to thank their families and friends for their support along the way.

Program Headshots
To have your headshot included in the printed program, you must come in and have a professional headshot taken.  Depending on which Commencement(s) you're participating in, we will provide all the necessary regalia and attire for you to wear in your headshot.

The Commencement Office will be taking professional headshots of all students listed in Cultural Commencement programs during the week of April 8 - April 12, 2019 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m in Building 81. 

Program Biographies
Your bio should be no longer than 190 words and include information about your overall Cal Poly experience (e.g. favorite memories, campus involvement, academic achievements, personal accomplishments, expressions of gratitude/recognition, and acknowledgments). You can submit your bio in any language of your choosing.

Student headshots and biographies are due to the Commencement Office no later than Friday, April 12, 2019.
